That's great news, i have 2 gearboxes so would just need the bell housing and possibly flywheel housing for the perkins i already have if i cant find a commer engine. I thought the ratios might have been different but if they're the same happy days. cheers mate

Just the bell housing, box is the same , I may have one. I have engine mounts and rad is different.

OOO sounds good martin, let me know what parts you have and a price please? Do you have any complete engines? That was a 4108 that i was picking up from acster marina the day we called in on you but i havent had chance to open it up yet to see what condition it is in. Ta for the advice

Rootes used to do from the factory 4108 Complete conversions with different bellhousing etc for a few models and there are Detailed leaflets that they produced. think I have one somewhere. Main car I'm aware of was Super Minx Estate, and a friend in Cumbria has had one for years, coupled with a 4+2 Overdrive box.

Just be carefull with marine engine > AFAIK that was a slow revving version of 108 with different internal components. Not sure if would stand use in a road vehicle at higher revs/strain.

Martin's just up road from me and has my number.

Cheers bud, i dont know the rev range on the pump that came with the engine but i have a couple of commercial pumps so should be able to sort that. Do you have any idea which internals would be different? I believe this engine came from a transit originally.

make sure you get one with a glow plug - the thermostart is a nightmare. Also, "parts 4 diesels" does a full 4108 overhaul kit.

other things to consider..
a recon CAV fuel pump could cost around £400 if like mine it falls to bits
a new set of injectors are a similar price.

I overhauled as much of mine as I could - all in Situ. new fuel pump, new injectors, new water pump, new pistons, cranks, big ends, complete top end overhaul with all new valves etc. The only thing that I couldnt do was the main bearings ...... so you can guess what bit failed, when the engine heats up and the oil thins it pushes past the main bearings causing an oil pressure drop.

I also replaced the mechanical fan with a Kenlowe, put a K&N filter on as I didnt have any filter when I got it. I also put a cherry bomb exhaust on - to reduce the exhaust back pressure..... and then my oil pressure gauge capillary tube burst, sprayed the exhaust manifold in oil and set fire to my wiring loom - happy days
