We had stopped bothering you all with pics of trips out as it seems mostly doing stuff to the van is posted :I but we have an excuse today as Percy has new tyres so here they are:D. Nice trip out and the ride feels lovely:p (psycological I know) although I am not sure we will be welcome back in the tyre shop for a while as it clogged up their saturday morning rush a bit (Glad I got there early:D)

Bothering us[:0] Don't be daft, we relish seeing vans used as they should be - and you seem to use yours more than most. Keep the pics coming and make us drool :D

You make us so jealous being able to enjoy taking Percy out and about.
We are all working hard and I believe getting there, to be able to get photos of our trips and not just our renovations.
Can't wait [8D]

Percy seems to relishing in the trips out and about, I guess I don't need to say to keep on top of rust preventative measures though ;)

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I love all 4 wheeled vehicles, irrespective of age, (apart from Mondeos and Focus').

Rust?? Yep, bottle of aquasteel and big can of Waxoyl waiting in the shed. Two nice new bits of metal hopefully coming from Woolfy tomorrow (hope you got the cheque OK) so once they are in the underneath will be getting a good coating of Waxoyl to top up what is underneath as it seems to have been well sealed in the past.

God only knows what is under the paintwork [xx(] Time will tell.

MOT t-minus 3 weeks............[:0]

Oh yeh, nice trip out to Sheffield Park Gardens on Saturday (65 miles:p) to run the petrol down to make it easier to drain the tank and take off for the welding. No pics as just parked in the car park:)

Last weekend was spent preparing van for the MOT[B)] New it had a technical fail due to a bit of rust on back of chassis rail (luckily everything on the spring hanger bits is still nice a solid, it seems to be where the bumper irons use to bolt in as plenty of metal left at back to weld onto.

Tanks Woolfy for the chassis sections

Tank out and nice suprise is it is in good nick above as is the floor.:D

Took out the float and the tank is clean as a whistle inside so hopefully no snakeskin in the future. (To make draining tank easier I had run it low. Turned out to be less than a litre left and it wouldn't actually run smooth on the steep drive:I not the dreaded gunk;)

Both chassis rails done but this was the bad one[:0]

All went in nice with plenty of good metal to weld to (some bits even got factory paint on them and nice shiny metal[8D]

Well sealed after

So MOT this morning. Failed[}:)]..........

But only rear brake lights stuck on and a fail on the handbrake efficiencey for offside rear.;)

Back to the bat cave where a strip off the rear drum and good clean revealed no real problems so took out adjuster cam and cleaned well and put in with a bit of grease. Adjust the brake job done. Rear brake lights always have worked and did still, wiggled a few wires near the handbrake anyway to make us feel like we had done something.

Back to the garage and...................

MOT for another year so Commerfest is back on:D:D:D

Couple of advisories which will need to be sorted for next year but tester commmented on how good the underneath was so that is real incentive to get back out with the aquasteel and waxoyl and keep it in tip top shape;) (will need to source king pin sets and steering idler/pivot I think).

Have to say a massive thanks to my friendly mechanic who I am receiving an 'apprentership' from. Without him it really would not be possible for me to keep on top of the van (and big thanks to his family for letting me kidnap him for the odd weekend);)

Ohh also took of the rest of the 'tow bar/foot step' which weighed an absolute ton, I am going for a fold up plastic step from now on I reckon I will get an extra mile per gallon for not carrying the extra weight it was the most heavily over engineered foot step in the world (although I think it had been used to tow before because there was the remains of a tow/trailer wire (seven core.)

Big Bad Woolf

congrats! comment when I took off my rear step: "who put that in? the council?"

mybanner4a41eb1237a97.jpg

Does that mean all the rear steps are on like that, I thought it was an overzelous former owner! I could hear the van breath a sigh of relief as they came off:D

Chasis sections fitted perfectly Woolfy, only comments would be maybe some weld through primer on them. Not having the flanges at the end was a help as we custon cut/bent the flanges to length to strengthen it at the back end. Thanks again for sorting them so quickly;)
