Bugger! [)] Got it the wrong way round!

Should read:

Satnav says Speedo says
20................. 16
30................. 25
40................. 34
50................. 42
60................. 49
70................. 57

So when Peggy tells me she is doing 57mph she's actually doing 70mph!

I'm going to put some sticky numbers on the speedo.;)

70[:0] I had 65 indicated on the speedo flat out on a level road. If I had the same speedo error I must have been pushing 80 - in my dreams:I
This was a long time ago in an age before sat-nav.

It was on a downhill stretch of motorway, approaching a contraflow where everyone was slowing down so had to give up there. I reckon she'll do a bit more when I get the carb and ignition adjusted properly.

I am now paranoid about my speedo[:0] I reckon mine is about OK as usually showing 55ish on the 60 roads and people overtaking on the straight bits so must be pretty slow I reckon. Don't have sat nav to chack, mayber I could tape over the plates and run it thorugh some speed cameras......joke

Ran Peggy up to temperature this afternoon to adjust the carb a bit more. I ended up with the mixture screw wound all the way in (it might go further but I won't force it). I'll try to take her for a run at the weekend if I get time.

Also fitted new wiper blades and clear siliconed the screen seal which was leaking a tad during the recent rain.

When the engine was clearly at operating temp (no choke required and thermostat open) I checked the temp with an infra-red thermometer and with the gauge registering about 55 degrees C the temp of the engine block was about 60-65 degrees and the top hose into the rad was about 51 dgrees which would tend to suggest the gauge is close enough. Question is - why does it run so cool?

I'm thinking that either the 'stat is missing/stuck, or is a low temp one (I'm betting on missing or stuck open). Unfortunately I didn't check to see if the stat opened as I just started her then did the wipers and screen.

If I get time tomorrow I'll start her up and monitor the temp of the top hose, if the 'stat is working properly it should suddenly get warm/hot at some point. If it just gradually gets hot I'll know the 'stat is either missing or stuck open.

I now have an electric fuel pump and mounting kit, I'm awaiting some in-line filters and am trying to sort out some fuel hose so I can re-route in front of the rad. Hopefully these actions will help prevent the fuel evaporation issues. I've also sent Tim an email re a new tank.

I wish I had known you had an infrared temp thingy - it would have been useful on Babs.

Well, undid all the panels we put on and removed the rad this pm - and will take it to a reconditioner next week. The one I took it to this PM in Hemel has recently closed down (i.e. since I called him before xmas). Researching another one at the moment that's in denham

Keep us posted. The thermo' can be obtained from Maplins for not a lot of pennies.

Just hooked up the trailer tent to Peggy's towbar to test the electrics - AOK! So I can tow knowing the trailer lights will work!

Then it rained so I went indoors......
