Pb hazard lights fault

Gremlin in my hazard lights. Indicators work hazards don’t. Done a resistance test on switch and that seems fine. Did voltage test and got 0.1v from live in to earth. Swapped hazard relay but nothing. Assumed hazard relay is the one behind centre dashboard bit so put cigarette live onto it but that went wrong, smoked and got hot and no hazards. Will take instrument panel off this weekend to try and find what wires go where. I have a circuit diagram/manual. Am I being stupid and missing something? Fuse? But the other things linked to that (cabin lamp and horn) both workB120F65A-1748-4EE7-AB67-BA7C2F9E88D3.jpeg31A19A4E-F684-43DE-8F07-1881D64F43BF.jpeg

Is that connected to the hazard switch? The voltage stabiliser is normally in that location, bolted to the parcel shelf support bracket, and it looks a lot like that.

Without taking dash off I can’t be 100%. Some of wire colours looked the same but wasn’t sure what else it was to check colours. Found v stabiliser and that also has a light green. Bother. Could I have cooked it?

Bummer, probably cooked:( I'm pretty sure it only feeds the fuel and temperature gauges so see if they are still working before you replace it.
If you do I would replace it with a solid state one, you can get them on Ebay pretty cheap and less than an original type.

Yes map shows it goes to them. Will have a look on Ebay just in case. Relay must be hidden in there somewhere. Will take dash off on weekend. Will also give me a chance to investigate all the loose wires hanging about and prepare for adding extra relays as you suggested back along for lamps etc and maybe some fuses. Thank god it hasn’t got modern car electric clutter in it lol

No just old car clutter;)
Sorry can't help with the hazards, doesn't have them on mine.

Lol. Just showing off now. Great help as always though, now I know what not to ‘fix’. Thank you. May well add to this later when I blow something elseo_O

Finally found the relay. Next to the fuse box behind the material hiding the front under the dashboard. 6 hours later and a trip to the shops to replace the new relay I plugged into the wrong circuit and blew it, rewiring cig lighter to correct wires, thus having to rewire and moving screen wash switch and replacing with monentary to tidy that up and swapping horn switch for momentary one. Removing old botched stereo wiring splice. Taking the instrument panel off didn’t help as that only moves about an inch with all the wires etc restricting it. Only really mention all this in case another novice (like myself) has to find the hazard relay:mad: all fixed and working and looking better:D

At least I know a little more now. And got a better idea how to split it up for fusing. Saw a nice 12 way fuse box. Split in half with +ve poles in so can have a constant live and ‘ignition’ live in one box with minimum wires etc. Then just mount it to the back of flap by ashtray. Might have to take a week off for that lol

Hi. I replaced my relay last year, still had issues with indicators, managed to sort in the end...grubby insides of indicator stork & dodgy earths coupled with knackered hazard light switch

Thanks for info. Turned out relay was duff. Also managed to ruin voltage stabiliser by thinking it was the relay and swapping wires about. Whoops. I will certainly bear that all in mind if gremlins attack again:)

Sounds about right... Watch out for the old switches too mine were all on there last legs including side light/headlight switch it worked when it wanted too & was constantly flicking away like crazy on off on off on off until it worked lol Couldn't find New switches same size so did away with the lot & got a new 8 gang toggle unit "see pic's" posted

I couldn’t find the switch either. It’s blooming massive. Yeah, saw the switch panel pics. One for every occasion lol. Cool though.

Yes a lot of the old connectors and switches have built up oxidation etc. My wiring for the main lights used to get pretty warm and they’d all just go off now and again, quite scary. Turned out to be oxidation in the main connecting block, sandpaper and a bit of tightening of the female plugs and perfect

It Gets fitted this w/end into a new brushed stainless dash & it lights up when selected switch is in use + a newly configured consul with built in sat Nav, new clock layouts & warning lights... Will post pictures this w/end once fitted

Oooh very swish. Where did you find a Lucas sat nav to? Lol. I’ve got a coaster with old map of Torbay on it as my sat nav. Think it may need an update but it hasn’t got bluetooth on it
