I use one that fits on the tow bar. It works really well - I think its from thule. You can't open the rear doors when its on, but the kids can always climb over into the back!
Thanks BMM
But we're always stopping for wees, chocolate etc. At least every 1/2 hour.
Am thinking not opening the doors could be a bit of a hassle...?
But, Ive never seen a roof mount bike rack
Folding bikes....is good lateral thinking.....but we've already got the bikes.
I would think that a drop down one for 4x4s might work. But i tried all the usual suspects like Thule, Towsure, Mountney without seeing one like that
These folding bike racks are pretty standard Opel/Vauxhall accessories, I know that for a fact (as I'm working for GM). Any Vauxhall dealer will be able to show you the rack. Is fitted onto the tow bar. And I'ms pretty sure that GM is just one of many companies offering this sort of rack for their vehicles.
Just checked the web, and this is very similar - at a fraction of the price we charge... [:0]
Suppose the only potential problem would be whether the rack folds down sufficiently in order to clear those rear doors on the Commer. I've never inspected the racks properly myself, so I don't know whether that tilt function is restricted to a certain angle or if it folds all the way down (90 degrees).
I see a possibility that it would fold down far enough if it didn't have the tail board at the bottom question is can you see the commer number plate with out using that ?
Witter towbars do a towbar mounted with removable sections to open rear doors even with bikes on, this has a plate bolted behind the ball so you can still tow aswell (Part no ZX88). A company called Fiamma also do door mounted systems aswell that we use for the standard boxer van motorhome conversions, does involve drilling and bolting to the door though. Both companys will come up on internet search engines. hope that helps!
