Hello everyone , is there any interest in having your vans/campers paint jobs looking like as found condition ?, is there anyone with pictures of there’s to share ?, when I do mine I don’t want it shiny I want it to show it’s age and have some marks here n there “don’t know how I’m going to do that “ but I’ve been thinking about spraying it satin ?? , not interested in Matt and I’m not after a rat rod look I want it to look tidy and honest if possible. I’ve not started looking at ways to do it yet but any ideas would be helpful thanks.

I'm in part way through painting my 50 year old car and am going for the shiny look. However, I may end up with satin!
When I ordered my paint I had the option of gloss, satin or matt. I will be posting pictures on vive le rust porn in due course.

Looking forward to seeing your pictures thanks, regarding artificial patina I think a little bit here n there not the whole vehicle for me , surely there must be someone on here with a commer/dodge running original paint or new old looking paint job ?? Post some pictures and opinions/advice !!. I haven’t dipped my toe into the paint types yet but the first thing I need to know is what type of primer to use Not knowing what type of paints on it now ?, I’ve been using red oxide on my repair areas from screwfix n clean brush in white spirits does this mean it’s a oil base ?, Is there a primer that I can use and not worry what it’s going over ??
The easy way to looking like "as found" is to leave the paintwork as you found it. If you must spray it because of repairs, I reckon to do as decent a job as you can, enjoy it shiny, then use the van often, and the patina will return soon enough. I'm amazed at the chips and scuffs I've picked up in 7 years.

Have you got a local friendly bodyshop? They may even be able to get you the paints etc?

My local camper converters sold me off cuts of ply and corner brackets so I could make my interior. And I took the tops back for them to router the edges and fit that plastic edging. They were really helpful and gave me loads of advice so well worth a try lol.

I am just finishing painting mine in Cellulose. I bought it from Buzzweld in Bristol, (they do mail order). They were significantly cheaper than my preferred supplier (Craftmaster) but the pennies are rapidly running out! The white paint was great, but I had some trouble with the blue paint, (the dark blue pigment wouldn't mix in properly) but they couriered out a replacement tin pretty sharpish with no problems, which was perfect.
Cellulose is great for DIY and very easy to rectify any runs or problems afterwards. If you aren't sure what is already on the van, hold a cloth soaked in cellulose thinners against if for a few seconds and see if you get a reaction, if not you are good to go. If there is a reaction you can either strip the lot off, or give it a couple of coats of barcoat sealer first. Cellulose paint naturally sprays slightly matt, (although I lay on a well-thinned final coat to gloss it up). You then colour sand, cut and polish for full gloss, but you could leave out some of these steps if you want to keep it looking less glossy. Look forward to hearing how you get on!

Looking forward to seeing your pictures , I hope there will be some covering your progress ?, I’ve tried the rag with cellulose thinner’s on it and the red oxide I’ve been painting over my repairs came off easy and the original paint was really hard to get any off !, but nether seems to have wrinkled.
