Paint Codes

Afternoon Ladies and Gents,

Can anyone tell me where the paint code might be on a 67 highwayman, there is a plate under the drivers seat but not sure if it contains the paint code. I this to a bodyshop and they didn't have a clue [?]

Thanks

As far as I remember, all Highwaymen were produced in white, until the facelift in about 1971 when they had a khaki green rear panel and side stripe. If yours is a different colour, it is likely to be a later respray.

I assume they were the original Rootes white, but not necessarily so. Our 1967 Wanderer was primrose yellow with a white roof, which I believe was a colour prepared by Bluebird as I don't recall seeing it on any other conversion or panel van.

If you can get the code for a white van of the period it should be close enough.

They were most probably painted at the converters, Commer just supplied the chassis cab.

Summer's here.....

I think you may be right guys, it could be a colour used by the converter (its a kind of sage green) i will take it to a decent bodyshop to see if I can get them to match it up.

Thanks

The helpful guy at http://auto-paint.co.uk/carpaint/ has a host of old paint charts but more importantly the actual recipes too (I managed to get Rootes 'April Yellow' which seems to have only been available for a couple of years late 50's / early 60's). Celly costs £16.95 a litre (IIRC)

Think I've linked these fab Rootes swatches on CVF before but can't find them now however they include 'Sage Green' and other similar shades which might be useful to you ;

The metallic light green (#67) is a bit sagey.

I have the same swatches as the link above. The mix in ICI colours are:

Clear base P017-404 - 50%
Veridian P030-9917 - 15%
Aluminium Bright P030-9995 - 9%
Brown Gold - P030-9910 - 2%
Fast Yellow - P030-9970 - 2%
Reduced white - P030-9929 - 20%
Reduced Turkey Red oxide - P062-9915 - 2%

Don't have any idea if these can still be used for mixes.

Andy
