Overdrive inhibitor switch!

On my van the switch was on the side of the selector UJ (thing). The pin that goes through it kept hitting the switch when you pull the gear stick back

As you can see from this pic, now its all replaced its actually stopping me from selecting 2nd and 4th. On the very other side of the selector housing is a blanking bolt and in theory if I put the switch in that side, when its now in the on position it will in fact be in the off position.

If I just get a relay that turns the overdrive on when the switch side is broke / off!
This will work ? (sorry for thinking aloud) Anyone else's wired up different?

The other blanking plug is for a reversing light switch. I had the same problem with the cotter pin nut fouling the switch body - I just took a hacksaw to the nut and trimmed a bit off then turned the switch so the flat matched up with the 're-profiled' nut:)

that was my second option I was just trying to be a little clever! So your saying that in fact its not actually opposite but will actually only complete the circuit when the van is in revers? BUGGER :(

I also has the same problem. A touch of the angle grinder on the nut sorted it!, i also had another issue which was that the OD could be selected in any gear. Took a while to figure out that the plunger on the switch was a fraction too long, therefor always on. A washer under the switch got it right.

I just need a good rootes...

I fixed it:D. Didn't have to cut anything or grind anything. I fitted a more moder version of the same switch. This one is the perfect size for the job!
