15/40 is ok Colin any oil is better than no oil if you have a good engine that doesn't leak or burn oil treat it to the best you can afford if it burns it & leaks use cheaper stuff

Basically 15/40 will be thinner when both cold and hot

Yes, thats how I understand it Tim........I've been waiting for your input on this thread...thankyou ....but why shouldn't i use 15/40 instead of 20/50? ...and any ideas from you why the o/drive is behaving the way it is please mate?

20/50 or 15/40 is the same price? ......ok, so if its a case of buying the best we can afford then why don't we all use synthetic oils?
I would have helped if i knew Colin :I. i don,t think the oil type will be the problem, it,s more like the settings or internal fault, cone clutch maybe [?]

I'm hoping the postman turns up 2moz with a new solonoid (lets hope thats the issue) otherwise the box will be out and in lots of pieces...hey, if thats the case maybe instead of a clown I can be gearbox guru lol...
Well, the new shiny solonoid arrived and was fitted today....still no joy! .....frustrating, but hey ho! I will probably leave it til autumn now and then have the box out again for a full strip down and maybe give it to a specialist to sort out....at end of day I still have a gearbox that doesn't jump out of 3rd like the old one and I don't want Tigger off the road now the sun is shining[8D]...if I need any bits, I wonder if I can buy them or will have to have them made? ......
Something I haven't actually done is taken the filkter out and clean it, but I notice the drain plug is rounded off, so removing it isn't really an option...presumably if I drain as much as poss from the normal gearbox drain then remove the filter that any oil left will just escape all over me from the filter casing?
Yep
Worth a look but a blocked filter would more than likely prevent the OD from engaging in the first place, who knows what you will find - lumps of bearing or gears, maybe a dead frog[}]
lol ...When you get time John would you take a look in the manual for me and just see if there are any other suggestions please mate...so annoying that Steve gave me a manual with Smurf and I can't find it anywhere.......i thought about adjusting the solonoid further as like smurfs but in theory I can't see how it would help...as it is set it engages perfectly smooth and quickly...I worry that if I adjust it further, that the o/drive will be engaged all the time.....maybe just forget about it til Autumn..
