Hi Roger
I don't know about the earlier adapter so can't comment really but in fact the bracketry I made was quickly hacked out of a bit of scrap one evening. It is a bit OTT and could be used as a lifting-point if Pootle rolled over but it was quick and free and works so I'm happy!
Thanks to all for best wishes about my reaching grandfatherhood and yes Panky I am probably too old for getting under old vans but it is still quite good fun otherwise I wouldn't do it! (oops, yes Helen of course I would do it for your wonderful van darling!

)
Latest progress was fitting shortened propshaft (reduced by 3 inches). This was done by Propshaft Services over near Heathrow airport and it turned out really well. Including a couple of NOS Quintin Hazel UJs, shortening, rebuilding, balancing and painting cost £140 which was a good deal I think for a quick painless solution.
I have refitted the old exhaust for now but it is blowing a bit so will build up a new one in new year.
Sorting out the wiring for the overdrive was a bit of a PITA and has taken much of today.
First issue was setting of the switch on the geabox so that it only closed when 3&4 selected and didn't activate when reverse selected - involved some trial and error with spacing washers but sorted a reliable solution in the end. It involved lots of gearchanges which is now brilliantly positive after sorting all the bearings on the linkage.
Next up was wiring up a relay and switch for the solenoid - simple circuit but involved hacking into the existing wiring which is in a terrible state so almost every wire I touched needed work. In the end I have it all wired OK but it has convinced me that, come spring, the whole thing needs a rewire. I have rewired loads of old bikes over the years so Pootle should be a simple task but better order some more wire I think...
Hopefully everything is now set for a road test in the morning - better keep off the M25 as I don't want a speeding ticked now she is race-tuned!

Cheers
Tony
