well after changing the radiator pipes on thursday and fitting new ones along with new jubilee clips i have just learnt that you should always check that they are good and tight, as after driving eight or so miles on friday morning to my first garden there was a horrible noise and the oil pressure dropped, alarmed at this i pulled over to find smoke pouring off the engine fearing the worst i called my father in law and he and his trusty fiesta came to my rescue and towed me home.. after allowing all to cool and replenishing the water in the cooling system she appears to run and have no ill efectts, out came the rad to today and off came the thermostat housing after descovering a crack,,speedy spares here i come.. the rad is not holed as i had feared it was just a loose pipe.. i really should have learnt by now to double and triple check everything that i do......:Dpoor old girl hopefully all will be sorted monday..
 
Puts the 'fear' into you dosent it!!...Im sure with the head and block being cast iron then there shouldnt be a problem.Unlike modern 'lightweights'...I agree it pays to check everything over thoroughly.
Im sure she'll be fine mate!!:D
 
As the VW add used to say 'Very tough as old boot' and so are these engines. Must have been fun towing your PB with a Fiesta!
 
My van used to have two radiators in it to stop the summer overheating and provide extra heat in the back on colder nights!

However it now hasnt even got the engine fully in ;)
 
:D all sorted new thermostat housing and antifreeze and all is good she seems to be running fine, thank god shes as tough as old boots[:) there are two cooling fans one seems to be off a sierra or a ford of some type need to wire in a switch to make it work. being towed behind the fiesta was certainly interesting poor old fiesta was struggling up and down the hills, but we were being smiled on as every light went green for us on the way home..
