Out and About

As the weather forecast was good we took the van to Appledore this weekend.

Appledore is in North Devon, recommended by friends on Friday evening, and very convenient for us.

So.................

We parked up on the car park where you can pay £5 at the ticket machine for an overnight stay, with a view of the estuary.

There's public toilets as well, which saves any unpleasantness in the morning.

Appledore is re-inventing itself as it recovers from losing most of its shipbuilding industry.

This is the old dry dock which was shipbuilding until 1969. The village itself is delightful with tiny winding streets and numerous pubs, all of which seem to have live music in the evenings, and they let you take your takeaway in to eat if they don't do food themselves.

We opted for this pub, and tapped our feet to a Calypso/folk duo.

We fell in love with Appledore, and will definitely visit again out of season.

We had a look at Bideford on Sunday afternoon. They have the same arrangement for parking as Appledore, but there's not really much to keep you in Bideford, apart from the long bridge built in 1287, which has been rebuilt so many times there are no two arches the same.

Home this evening to watch the US F1.

Very small dyno’d and fully sealed honda variant to stop people tweaking them :) about 7-8hp. Chat to an owner they can get to almost 50mph but run up to 35 at Buxton as a small track. New class and can’t make enough of them currently as the kids all want them unsurprisingly.

I am on a train.....last time I went on a train It was for The Colonel.....I am somewhere nearby sir & one fine day I may visit ya!

Can you start me a new new new new new ride thread.....ta

Lovely van, the interior has got such a nice look to it, used, loved, and nicely altered to meet the owners needs over the years. Love it:)

Still keeping the v8 Jon! They do different things....this is what happens when I want a modern motorhome! She is gorgeous & will be here for a long time I hope.

So............the weather forecast was good for the weekend, and we slipped away to our favourite Dorset again.

Wall to wall sunshine for two whole days, so it was a good call.

Started off at Sherborne, some posh schools there and plenty of money, but a good little town.
Then down the Cerne valley to see the giant.

The area has a 1200 year monastic history and is fascinating if you're into that kind of thing. The village of Cerne Abbas, within walking distance of the giant is well worth a visit.

Had a look around Dorchester (Thomas Hardy's area), and this was the most interesting thing I found.........

Britstopped at a pub just west of Dorchester, and spent today (Sunday) on the coast near Abbotsbury. We walked west to West Bexington. Then up the hill to the hill fort. Very draughty with a cold wind, but managed to find a spot out of the wind to sit and soak up some warmth.

Stopped in a layby to have a brew and watch the sun set.

That's an '83 Bedford CF we're parked next to. Must get that wrinkly side panel replaced!

I wonder if we'll get out in the van again this year?
