When was the last time you saw a Commer out on the road driving along under its own power. I must be unlucky cos the last one I saw was a couple of years ago on the M6 coming back from Scotland. It was a foreign registered grey PB panel van conversion camper and looked in lovely condition. It's been a while since I drove mine and compared with the usual saloon cars I drive always seemed quite big but seeing this little beauty along side modern metal it looked almost tiny in comparison. Today's equivalent appears huge to me (look at the new Tranny) I guess the more simple tastes of yesterday required less room to pack things in :)
 
Ill be honest i havent seen one since childhood...30 odd years now [:0]...are all commer vans off road and in various states of restoration??, it seems so!.would be nice for us all to form a convoy of commers and hit the road like the Ford transits in that advert(backbone of Britian).

Mornin' Paul, yes it would appear most of us are in the same boat (barge). Any members in the camper rich south west, in surf country, got any sightings [?], I think Commers are fast becoming UTO's (unidentified trundling objects) :( . A convoy would be a great idea but I think the long line of transporters and trailer would block the road system at the mo', not quite the backbone of Britain more like the left big toe of the classic car movement :D
 
oh my goodness i feel for you guys my commer has been in daily use for the last eighteen months, she cuts a real dash in he ford pepermint paint with white roof and leaves many a smilling face as we trundle down the road,, i suppose i must a bit on the mad side to be using her for gardening work but she loves it:Dand if you want to do the convoy i say start in surrey as the fuel bill is killing me:p but may be cheaper to use with out my little trailer..
 
Good man, I used one as an my only car (kids were small and before people carriers) for about four years and yes it was a tad dear to run. But great to here of one running every day and earning its keep [^]:D.
 
Since owning one and taking it off the road for restoration I have only seen one, in summer, parked up on the A303.

There are another 2 in my town but they always seem to be parked up!
 
It is strange one minute they are everywhere the next not a sniff. It seems the PB has been almost lost to a generation, should cause quite a stir when we all hit the road again :D
 
Today I saw another [|)] splitty and a Bedford CA Debonair no less, still no Commers [V] The Bedford looked huge, or maybe it was just a small driver, any way it must have been quite an effort for that tiny engine to haul it around.
 
Stop stop stop you tease me too much. Would be nice to see a few more Walk thrus as well [8D]
 
I saw alot of campers heading back from gastonbury today on the m3 but no commers. I just honked at them and indicated that they were smelly (so mature).

P.S. Have you all seen my shiney new star:D
 
Saw two Commers at a festival ive had a stall at in Wales this week just gone!..both coachbuilts with the bunk above the cab..never got chance to speak to the owners due to having to work through the day..
Lots of old Austins,Albions and Bedfords as well, buses and converted horseboxes.
