We've just joined the forum and we thought we would introduce you to our latest purchase! :eek:)

It needs a bit of TLC here and there (maily cosmetic stuff), so we'll be looking for bits'n'bobs over the coming months.

We're based in Shropshire, so if there are any fellow CommerVanFans in our neck of the woods, we'll be pleased to hear from you! :eek:)

We're having a meet on 9/10 of June at my place (near Leeds). All welcome, free camping.
The van looks very nice, you're lucky if it only needs cosmetics!

Hmmm...not quite sure what we need yet, but I do know that the rubber strim/seal around the pop-up roof is looking very tired/mis-shapen...any idea where I can find a replacement?

Also...as happy as I am with it, I'm planning a respray of the lower half (maybe in a more '60's looking blue?). At the same time, I'm sorely tempted to attempt to de-Dodge the front end and make it a little more Commer or earlier Dodge-like.

Easy or tricky? OK, so the bumpers are a different height, but I am thinking I'd like to lose the plethora of spotlights, black fake grille and black headlamp surrounds and go for a "cleaner" look...under the black plastic, will I find the same metalwork as earlier vans (so I can bung earlier indicators/sidelights on)? If possible, I'd also go for an earlier-style "Dodge" script too.

Has anyone else attempted a "Facelift" like this? :eek:)
 
hi there guys woolfy here,the guy who makes all the new panels for these vans,check out earlier posts on here. the problem you will have is when you take off the plastic front gril ect on your van ,the metal front panel is slightly different around by the indicator lights, your panel will have sunk in metal surfaces and a commers stick out instead, so you would have to chop these bits off and try to have new commer shaped panels made. so although this can be done it wouldnt be a five minute job. hope this info is of help. see you at the show.:):p
 
Woolfy...either I'm not looking hard enough or it's buried in a post somewhere, but I can't find the stuff you're referring to...any idea what Topic it's under?

Martin...Apologies for posting here rather than emailing, but it's still not working.

Been poking around the van a bit...the whole length of the dash and door panels look a *bit* shabby.

If it's not had holes bodged in by a previous owner, then the black (vinyl?) covering is breaking up and the foam underneath is visible.

Don't s'pose you have any cab trim in the spares you mentioned?

Looking at the picture of Mattstra's new purchase it looks like there are a couple of grille brackets to get rid of. This done and an adaptor plate for the indicator/side lights and the front looks pretty clean, maybe chop up the BIG bumper into quarter bumpers with short chrome bars across the cooling opening a la Admin's PA. Not exactly original Commer but an improvement on the plastic grin :D:D
 
A kind of tangential train of thought has just struck me...were these indicator/sidelight units used on anything else?

If they were, what kind of surrounds did they have? ;)
