Our new commer highwayman

Sorry, have been busy doing little jobs inside re building furniture. There is so much to do to get it all repaired and back in, I am going to start varnishing tonight, I will bring all the seats indoors and do them and then that will leave all the walls clear for varnish saturday, we have settled on international yacht varnish as we have done lots of trials and this gives a great finish. we still have to repair all the wood above the cab but wanted to get the main living area back asap so we can use it.Going to a rally sunday at framlingham not been before but we have been told its really good, been taking lots of pics will update sat.

Yes still working on her, gary is replaceing panelling on bed boxes at the moment, he did a great job on the cooker unit but worked until 1 o clock last night, I have been varnishing all day today, first coat on some last night left it to dry then rubbed it down with fine paper and then varnished again and was really happy with the look so have done the rest, everything has now had two coats and looks great but will do some more during the week as each coat gets better. We are off to a rally sunday so wanted to get as much done as poss. next weekend we are going to west bergolt rally for the weekend and sleeping in her so plenty more to do before then. Every day she just looks so much better on the inside but the outside is still sad, been looking at the paint job stuff and its quite interesting but want to finish inside first.I do feel like I have been locked away in her today and my head was a bit fuzzy, all that varnish but it was worth it. Glad you are all still watching what we are doing. Have not had time to put photos on but have not forgot!!!

Would love to meet up with everybody but I'am afraid we can't do yours as well, but up for advice and a bit of help if you need it, when we are finished we are going to look for an old caravan and have a go at that or another coachbuilt if theres one going to the scrap we love a bit of woodwork!!!! off to a rally now,Lynne

Hi had a great day sunday at the rally and was offered some film work for the bubble the commer and the dog, canyou believe it, the dog, anyway don't have to make our mind up for a few days, not a great deal of money but the vehicles just need to sit still and the dog mingle amounst the kids. It would pay for the paint and some extras so worth thinking about. Make an orderly queue for the autographs please. Got lots to do for next weekend outing so will be busy everynight on the van. the list gets bigger. Saw a few people from last week and they were amazed by the progress so we must be going in the right direction. Update late tonight , Lynne

Hi tonight painted the bumpers and a wheel then it got too damp, spent some time compounding the good paint work and it has come up really good so thats what we will do for now, just touch up the green on the front where it has crazed and attempt some paint on the top roof bit of the cab as that is the sadest part, looks like somebody has started to rub it down then abandoned the job. been a bit lazy today as we had a long day at work. update tuesday, Lynne

hi just got in again, we now have electric light linked to a leisure battery that charges when you are on the move, the sink unit is fitted to the wall and varnished and has new doors and more to the point it is complete with shelves and plynth. the cooker is clean fitted and looks great but we need a new door seal but we can get this from calor, the new top wardrobe door is now fitted and looks great. needed new oil in gearbox and this is done, so have done loads, but list is still A4 size and as fast as you cross something off you think of something else to add. computer playing up but will try again to add photos, Lynne

Our CI Motorhome is getting close now too, but not to the extent that you two have done!If ever we meet I'll have to park as far from you as possible, cos you'll show me up! Well done the pair of you.

Hi everyone, we were meant to go to a rally for the weekend but have decided not to go, Gary fell down a pit at his friends garage yesterday and has hurt his thigh and hip quite badly and I'am not sure he was up to standing round at a rally for hours on end. We have put more of the trim back and one side of the top units and its looking great, the finishing bits really make a difference, we have trimed the hardwood with soft wood trim and it looks grand. Sorted out the running as like so many of you we were having trouble with the engine when you brake about 20mph the engine cuts, well thats now fixed. But still having probs with the exhaust need new bolts and nuts on the manifold they have threaded themselfs and we can not get it tight enough but read somewhere that speedys closed until august so will put on a bandage until they reopen. Forgot where a few bits went, good job we took lots of photos as this was a god send. Will fit the new curtain tracks at the back and one side today and then thats one side completly finished and just the corner unit to remake ( thats not easy, the unit is curved and the wood keeps snapping under so much pressure) and the top units that side to put back. Made a better bed base as the old one was straining under the combined weight of Gary and I, Will add photos today as computer now fixed and will have time so tell us what you think so far please. Still need a table open to any offers or ideas of where or how to get one please. We are going to try to do a tempory paint job on the front roof of the cab as it has been rubbed down so much before we got it it has no paint at all and we do not want any water seeping in through the fibreglass so a thin coat of paint will protect it until we can do the proper job, (have run out of funds and need a holiday). Hope you are all out in this lovely weather commering. Lynne.

Have you tried steaming the edging trim over a kettle spout. Makes bending round tight curves much easier.

Gary much better thanks had a couple of days rest from the van but have managed to bend the board by putting it in water and putting bricks on top whilst bending up the sides, lovely job and all fitted, we are working down the last side now so we can see the finishing post thankfully, I don't think we could have imagined just how much work we had taken on, but also now know its possible.

Sounds like you'll have finished by the time I next get to see friends with highwayman[:0] - you might not need any fittings from scrapper after all:D I am very humbled by your progress & glad Gary is better.

Only table I have spare is the one legged ironing board type from an autosleeper which I don't think fits the Highwayman anywhere. Mine has no-nails stuff stuck over table top too so probably not good enough to warrant paying to post it.

Good luck with the search and hope you get some more rallies in soon:)

Hi still would like lights and switches if possible please, we have left wires ready for extra lights if we get them. could you also ask if there is a table again any condition as we could repair it.

Hi this is a message for rockerboots, please would it be possible to email us the original pictures you took to advertise the van please, it is nearly finished and all the pictures we took at the beginning when we first got the van have been lost on the computer somehow. the pictures are on your advert on here but I can not download them, this would just give us a complete record of what we have done, thanks Gary @ Lynne [email protected]
