Our new commer highwayman

I have tended to use a lot of wooden blocks to increase the lift of a trolley jack :D

One strong wooden block is probably okay, any more can be highly dangerous if the thing shifts. A Commer resting on your torso wouldn't be a good day out, it would probably sting a bit.

There's nothing safer than using the proper equipment for the job.
 
just got back in from the van again we have now replaced all the wood right down one side and round to the back door, this bit round the door has been really tricky and time consuming as all the wood is cut to strange angles to allow the door to close nicely. as soon as we finished the wood the rain came so we have to wait for dry weather to stickerflex all the panels so they do not leak again. These panels have never had any seal on them and there is no overlap of metal so the water could just run in.the van has a big sheet over it again so all our good work is not in vain.Might still try to mot friday if we get panels finished and she drives well as we ran out of time again today.
 
just got back in from the van all the sides now sealed and all the holes for the door catches chiseled out and now door fits a treat, window back in, that was more difficult than taking it out. just moved it about on the drive and run out of petrol thats not a good start. more petrol purchased and van turned round to make working easier, but no mot today, everything is so time consuming,but its looking much better now. Hopefully new floor saturday.No brakes yet but we will get to them asap.

I have been having a look on the net for more info for you and found some interesting and useful stuff. If you go on the US ebay site and type this number in the search you will find the layout for a commer and although the van is a pop top the layout is the same. Note the trays above the battery nice touch I always thought. also note the table which I never knew about! Also look on the UK ebay item number 380041017244 this could be worth having. Well I still cant believe what a mess the commer ended up in it was stunning when I had it how could someone let a rare vehicle like this end up like that! but at least its in good hands now, keep up the good work.

hi todays update, the panel next to the door on the offside all sorted and the floor is up. apart from where it had been cut about and messed about with, leaving great holes it was in good condition, it had been painted with underseal on the part where it was open to the ground. Now its up This has given us a great view of the rear of the van and all the wood, metal has been treated with underseal keeping it in lovely condition but it has started to peel badly so we have scrapped and wire brushed it ready for another coat which will keep it for another 40 years, well maybe.The paint underneath this underseal really is as it came out off the factory and a credit to this product. it would be nice to leave it off but with our weather it would not be long before the rust comes and as we want to keep it forever we need it to last not to look pretty and win awards so practical is best.Off to a rally with the bubbles sunday so having some time out,Bubble needed some work today just a new flexy hose for brakes, but it has cured the problem as the brakes kept getting stuck on, all fixed now, but clock ticking for commer first meet 11th july!!!

Knowing the speed you work at you have probably already sorted this, but if you need it, I have a 4 ton trolley jack you are welcome to borrow. It weighs half a ton and the handle doesn't remove, so you would need something larger than a bubble car to move it! :)
 
Thank you so much for the kind offer but we have arranged to take it across the air base to the fire engine shed, and borrow their jack, even though it has no mot its legal to take it to somewhere to enable a repair for an mot so its going tues night and gary and a friend will look first and see if any new parts are needed or just a clean and adjustment, I am on underseal duty today and hopefully will post some new pics while Gary is at work then floor back down tonight! fingers crossed. thanks again Lynne
