Hi weather here not great, so proper job put off until wednesday so we can finish the roof.Gary is up top now cleaning off with thinners so I thought I would post pictures, you could all laugh at our nightmare. Only trouble is i got them on photobucket but dont know how to get them or a link on here. I have set up a new topic for help. I followed advice from the site but photos are on the old computer and it don't work very well. Anyway all alloy cleaned and ready to put back together but lunch first ( it could take some time ) Give you an update later and hopefully pictures, Lynne
 
What is it about the wet weather here in Suffolk at the moment? We are supposed to be the driest part of the country! I have just spent the weekend in Wales, moving my eldest son and his girlfriend into their first house and the sun shone constantly. [8D]

I blame the BBC moving Springwatch to East Anglia! [:(!]
 
hi everyone, we have just come in from working on the van, The roof is on, yes, I said the roof is on. But will it leak, I hope not it has had 3 tubes of sticker flex. its had it just about everywhere as we could not do that again just yet. we think its a submarine now not sure it could ever leak. slightly worried we might have made it air tight and we won't be able to breath,must remember to leave the window open. Don't try this at home unless you are ready to be sectioned. This was much harder than we thought. Still its done now. Still have to re line the van and put all the furniture back, but we can do that even if it rains so thats ok. We have arranged our first outing to camp over night on the 11th july so we need to get it ready for its mot first. Underneath looks good, is there anything I need to check thats a common fault before the mot, any advice greatfully received please.I have photos and would like to add a link to all the photos in photobucket perhaps somebody can help.You will think we are mad when you see these.Gary & Lynne
 
Rule 1; find a sympathetic MOT tester!

Then get the grease gun out and grease the front suspension well. This takes all the play out of it and hides any "wear". Check all electrics, make sure the brakes work (maybe bleed them) and are vaguely balanced (you can adjust this quite easily if not) and remember first impressions count. Get her running right too, don't fail the visual smoke test.Apart from that it's bon chance!

Failing that, fifty quid left "lying" in the ashtray helps too sometimes.
 
hi thanks for that, we usually take all our classics to somebody who has them himself so he is aware about old vehicles, but he lives 20 miles away and I don't think the police would think this an acceptable distance for an mot, its to much trouble for a trailer as its so wide. we can get away with it with our bubble cars as he is one of the only garage near us that mot 3 wheelers. Not sure what to do yet gary says he will just drive it there, its insured, you don't pay for tax anyway so what the hell.

Hi this is just a few, roof now completely on, fill tired as it was a long day aprox 200 screws by hand as electric screwdriver could not get them in, will put finished pics on later. And guess what, its not raining, just when you don't mind it raining the suns out.
Still lots to do, but getting it dry had to come first.

I can't believe you have achieved so much in such a short time. Well done, you put me to shame!

It is interesting to see how much insulation there is behind the original panels, I'm surprised it had any.

Have you treated the new wood against future rot? You may not get any water in from the outside, but condensation can have a similar effect. I have seen the damage that can be caused to buildings when the outside is sealed against damp.
 
Hi all the panels had insulation, some was sponge and some normal stuff, but all panels were covered. all wood treated just in case. we will try to put some extra good insulation back so we can use in winter if we want to.

Hi serious stuff now can somebody tell us exactly what to do to drop the gearbox and release the clutch. have tried everything else and its not moving.How long will it take? Can get an mot as soon as this is sorted.
 
Nice easy job, with plenty of access. Remove the prop. Undo the gear linkage by taking the pins out of the UJ(a bit fiddly). Drain the oil. Remove the slave cylinder and starter. Undo the engine/gearbox bolts. Thats it, should take about 2 hours to get it out and back in ;)
 
Hi thanks for the advice, will look at it again thursday, been working on the exhaust tonight, seemed to be blowing bad but cleaned up the donut put it back and found that the thread on the nut had stripped, looked in many boxes of odds but have not got one so a trip to the shop thursday and with that on another job complete, I think!!!
It still has not rained so roof not tested yet, will keep you posted. Gary & Lynne
