Online supplier of HI Build Primers (Not Aerosols)

I have been using the UPOL Hi Build primer in an aerosol and have been very pleased with it, but the quantity and price is only good for the small areas.

Are there any good suppliers online that anybody has used that can supply a good quality Hi Build Primer (UPOL, Du-Pont, Sikkens etc)?

Thanks.

Thanks Martin!

Turns out my dad has to collect some tiles from Shrewsbury tomorrow so I am going to blag a lift and go to Border Automotive to get some Primer, Gun Wash etc.

Any suggestions on what primer I should get (First time at this!), I was going to get some 2K Hi Build (I have respirators etc) and I was wondering if anyone would reccommend getting some Etch to go on the bare metal first?

Something along the lines of 1.5L Etch and 5L Hi Build / Filler Primer?
Apart from the correct Activators is there anything else I need to get? Besides Gun Wash.

Thanks.

Always etch bare steel!!! dont buy any 1k sh*te though as it just doesnt work!
its ok for tiny rub throughs but not for whole panels.

hope this is of some help

Thanks, you have pretty much confirmed what I came up with :)

Was going 2K all the way. Etch the bare metal, then a good couple of doses of high build and sanding flat.

This is where I will be getting the Primer from (didn't get there today) http://www.borderautomotivepaints.com/automotive.html all seems to be Lechler Primers.

If you get some prices, email me them and what product name etc... and i will try and beat them for you,im only in staffordshire (newcastle Under Lyme) so not that far from shewsbury if you wanted to collect.
i use quite a bit of Lechler ti high build and to be honest it takes some beating! its 5;1 so you can wop it on and block it down,or when you thin it a little more it goes on realy flat.
Dont know if you went to commerfest ??,i painted Riches and Steves chrysler comps dept van, done in dec last year and considering it was cold it came out quite well, somedays i had to break the ice on the flatting bucket before i could find my sanding block!!!
anyway if you ever need anythink paint, filler ...sandpaper wise get some prices and i will try and get you a better deal, that also goes for any commer owner on here:)

my email address is [email protected] or [email protected]

KIND REGARDS

Hi Richie. By 1k sh*te are you just talking about the top coats? Can you get 2k etch-primer, or is that stuff only available in 1k?? Either way, is 1k etch primer any good?? I've never bothered with etch-primer before, but I think I've been missing a trick :)

Chamba,i always use 2k etch as ive seen the afects of single pack etch, two pack etch does grip itself to the metal and has anti corrosion propertys in it,as for single pack top coats .....never used them! its always worth paying a little extra and get a finish that lasts.

hope this helps,if you need any paint give me a shout,if you have a colour in mind or want something colour matched you could send me a small piece of painted steel,i can also get old fashoned celly if anybody wants to go down that route.

Regards

Richie

Cheers for the info mate. I'm going to have to go the 1K route so that I'm still alive afterwards to see the results! Eventually once all the metal work is complete, I'd like to farm out for a 2k spray job, but that'll be some time off. May be in touch about colour matching when I know whether or not my winter project is going ahead :)

Well buy an air fed mask then you will stay alive while you paint it;)
Richie has given you all this great advise and you seem to be doing the opposite!lol He does know what hes talking about you no as hes done a fair bit of painting;)

Yes I know, but I know bugger all about the keeping alive bit when it comes to spraying 2 pack! I've read plenty the horror stories of how it will kill your plants and neighbours etc etc, and I've read loads of conflicting advice on the safety side and figured 2k in a back yard garage is pretty much a no no...... or is it?

Just get an air fed mask lock your kids and pets indoors and get on with it!:D Just make sure your in a well ventilated place;)

Right, going to get some Etch and Hi Build tomorrow just to get on with, along with the correct hardeners / activators and some gun wash. Is there anything else I need to get?

I already have Panel Wipe and Tack rags :)

Why? I have an old bandana I can wrap around my face :p

As for the neighbours..... I was going to have a BBQ cooking bacon and sausages close by to disguise the smell :D
