What do you think guys.. i'm all new to this and trying to find that special one!!

Will this one break my heart if i bid enough and win it, or are we likely to drive off into the sunset and live happily ever after??

Could anyone advice me what my max bid should be please.
thanks

Bodywork looks prety serious, if you can do it yourself it's not too bad, but paying someone to do it is expensive. As far as the body goes, buy the best you can afford. ;)

ooooh, roof & gutter looking very naughty [B)] that was one of the many areas that finished off my old van - not the easiest place to repair[V]. Hope it gets rescued as looks a nice van with some character - wonder how underneath is looking? good to see Woolfys' site get a mention [8D]

Looks familiar - has it been on ebay before?

I have a friend of a friend that has a garage, he mailed me to say that he had looked at the pictures and thinks its going to cost around £2000 to repair. Does this sound about right to anyone? or is the friend of a friend thinking about ripping me off if i win?

If anyone can advive me i would appreciate it.
thanks

I think you're right about the roof - it would be a bit of a pain. Saying that - if it stays around £250 then it could be worth while.

It does look familiar kind of a cross between thomas and the one with the flames and funny rear wheel arches.

It's all down to personal choice. If you've got £2k to spend on it, you'll be in love forever; if you'll have to sruggle to do it, you might just get to hate it, which would be a shame. If you can do it yourself, you'll definately get to hate it, but when it's done, you'll fall in love all over again. Only you can decide.

Hi Kelly, there are far worse things to spend & get addicted on :D[}:)]:D
If it makes you as happy as it makes us it's worth it.
You would probably find if you found a nicely painted one, that after a few months the rust comes through & it's been filled with filler [V]
If you can see what work needs to be done in the first place & you get it cheap then spend a few grand over time you get a real sence of achievement & you know that van inside & out.you should be able to get a solid van for 2-3 grand but these babies allways need something no matter how good!
good luck :)

very tricky to offer advice - all depends how well your friend rates their friend and if any more ways of getting some feedback about their work. Can they come with you if you can see van in advance? - not an easy thing to quote on just from photos. I can't offer any guidelines on welding prices as lucky enough to be able to do repairs at home. Friend of a friend (if you decide to go with them) might find helpful pointers on forum for where commers have problem areas - there could well be more tucked away underneath and some commer knowledge might prove useful. Might be worth contacting woolfy (the clever dude that makes the panels - link on ebay listing) to ask what he thinks and get some quotes on panels you can tell you need from photos.

Can you ask to phone seller and see how you feel about how good description is? - I sort of get the impression that they have bought it to restore, done all they can and then came across some more expensive problems to sort. They might be happy to be straight with you and say what they've done so far and found left to do - or leave you with the feeling there is something left unsaid;)

Buying blind if you can't get to see van first is always scary and well worth avoiding if at all possible - but if price stays low and you can organise work then you could bag yourself a lovely van, can be a great feeling to have helped to save one[^] - you really appreciate the day you get that MOT and are out and about in your finished project.

Best of luck :)

Thanks for your comments, much appreciated.

I ended up mailing the fella on ebay with my quote, and he told me he had around the same quote, (so the friend of a friend was pretty spot on).
I think he is looking for it to sell at around £1000, he had paid 800 and spent 100 on the brakes..

We shall see what the final bid is, i may still have a bid or two:) and maybe have a view, depending on how much the friend of a friend wants for his time!

What a drama:D

i think she looks like she will make a great van but my hubby won't bid if we can't see her first and she is just too far away - :( good luck.

p.s. does anyone have a rough idea of how much transportation costs ie to bring a van from south coast up to the north east??

sorry am not closer to come and view with you to offer moral support - wouldn't be much good at offering level headed advice though - I'd probably fall in love on sight and say 'BUY IT!' :I:D

keep us posted :p

Sadly not, i decided to go to £500, then 520, then 550. I could have gone on, and on and on!!:D (i'm not sure the kids would have been happy with beans on toast for the next 6 months):(

Just not my time yet1
