o my, picture the scene.. n.ireland at its classic morose weather best..just driving away from the mechanics this early eve and marvelling at how well my van is driving (that was obviously my fatal error).. loving it, sniffing the petrol filled air and smiling ear to ear.. when literally 2 mins later when stopped at the traffic lights I failed to go into first gear didn't like that.. second gear.. not today!.. managed to start in third at that and the next set of lights.. making note to self that once I get home spend some time checkin it all out.. home was close very close and yet on this delightfully stormy windy rainy night oh and did I say windy... very very far away!! Came to set of lights that mark my turn off of a very busy dual carriage way.. so am on outside lane trying to get across traffic... waiting and whilst waiting trying to engage gear.. first has got lost, second not co-operating... over to third.. no that's not working this time.. I can see the smoke from our living room fire Im soo close.. traffic flying past me on both sides.. 2 changes of lights im still sitting there..car behind beeps, finally with a last lurch of hope I get it into fourth and manage to stutter spit (only way to describe it!) into inside lane .. away from the warmth of my lovely home and turn off the first road that came along, pull into a safe private laneway and took a breathe..Tis said I like an adventure but that one is a bit close to the wrong side of the edge even for me! Im now a bit anxious of the prospect of a new gearbox.. in both cost and availability? Any clues commer councillers? fankles
