OKU Spotted!

What a pleasant suprise to spot OKU on the way to work this morning! Angie did say she had spotted a Commer around town before but at last ive managed to see it with my own eyes. I looked back with search button and it was owned by someone off here at one time.

She looks wonderful[^] The colour is spot on. Gary and Lynne did a fine job of re-building her[8D]

Is OKU the oldest one we know of?

Moley and Brian the Snail :)

WE MADE IT TO COMMERFEST http://www.livecountdown.com/countdownclock/countdown.aspx?id=21370.

I thought it got sold and the new owners never registered on here? If I see it again I will put a note under the wiper next time

Aah :)

Lovely to see OKU again.

Thought she went to a camper rental company? She seems to be well looked after, which is the main thing. It would be a crime not to, after all the love, sweat and devotion from Lynne and Gary to bring her back to former glory !

She really looks stunning :p

angies said she seen it quite a few times where we live so unless the company is around where we live or lots of people who hire the van like to come to our town I would belive its owned privatley.

Who knows

Hello Everybody,

Its about time we broke cover again, especially after OKU was spotted in Dereham! (Thanks for the greta comments.)

Erica and I bought OKU from Lynne and Gary in February 2009.
Our plan was to get her finished and ready for us to use and then to hire her out to friends and family. If that went well we would then hire out to enthusiasts.

I've always wanted a Commer from an early age, and my Lesney/Matchbox Commer Milk float was my inspiration to buy an early one! Erica always wanted to have a Classic British Camper so that set the scene.

All has gone to plan so far and OKU has loads of admirers all around Norfolk.

I would like to try and get some photos on here for people to see the work Erica and I completed after buying her and give some stories about what OKU has been doing over the last year and a half.

However I can't seem to get load any photos on! Please help...

Cheers,

Paul

Hi Paul and Erica
Welcome aboard the forum:), and as everyone says this place gets very addictive !!!:):D Great to see another Series 2 as well !!
Love the pics already posted of your van already, very nice colour too.[^]
Regarding posting photos have you seen the help listing yet..link as follows>> http://66.129.69.181/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=91

You need to set up an album like it recommends in the help listing, but once done makes it really easy to post any pics on the forum. If you either have any questions or have any trouble posting the pics, please feel free to ask any of the members here on the forum. I am admittedly only a newish member compared to some other more experienced members, but likewise really appreciate and value the worldwide Commer friendship on the site here.

Once again welcome to the forum
Cheers,
Andrea

Too right, hope the van does get to be restored, it has been a very early model and rather rare at that too.

By the way, forgot to mention to you both before that it may seem a little quiet here on the forum over the weekend. This is because a lot of the members are attending the big Commer meet on at Coventry over the weekend.

Ok lets try some photos!

This is the day after we got OKU. We stuck her on the ramps to see what needed sorting underneath.

Just a bit of cleaning, painting and rust protecting required. Luckily the gearbox leak had keeped things rust free!

Here is the interior as finished by Lynne and Gary.

Because Gary and Lynne had done a splendid job on the back end, OKU only required some minor body work repairs to get her ship shape, mainly the door bottoms, front valance and the dreaded windscreen peak! On stripping we found her original paint colour which we both liked a lot so we decided to return her to her original colour. This may create a bit of controversy because there are those photos of her on the Wellbeck estate with her original number plate in dark green. However I think you'll agree she looks pretty jolly in her new colours. Getting it paint matched was pretty easy and we decided to coach paint it...

You can see the original paint colour on the dog port hole surround!!

I'll get some more photos up loaded to Photo bucket. If the photos have come out too small I'll save some bigger versions down. So please tell me.

Cheers,

Paul

Cheers Bob,

I hope alls moving forward with your van, heart breaking news indeed.

I think it is a clear warning to us all to check out our insurance details.

It sounds like you have some good guys on the case for you from with in the forum.

Good luck.

P

Welcome to the forum, Erica and Paul. Wonderful that you've decided to join in here, and great to hear that you are the new owners of OKU.

This particular Highwayman is very special to many of us, as we followed its transition in the hands of Gary and Lynne. Although it was very sad that they had to sell it in the end, it is very nice to see that it has ended up with a lot of love in your hands, as the new owners. It seems to be in really good health! :)

Nice to see your pictures, and please make them bigger if you can :p:p

As most of the others are in Coventry this weekend having a great Commer bash, there isn't as much traffic on the forum as usual. But just see when they're back, and I'm sure you will get a lot of response to you posts.

Your Highwayman really is stunning! Love the early version you've got. Our '65 model is the generation just after yours, as can be seen in the photo below.

Wishing you all the best with you lovely Bluebird H'man and hope to meet both you and the van one day :)
