ok with no therostat?

Hi, just got my van back after major restoration and the water poured out so brought it back... the reason apparently was the thermostat overheated.. so on advice from a commer prof and owner they took it out.. just checking that thats cool with the majority of thinkings.. as i wont have any comeback once i take it back so my question is - is it safe enough to drive without one... my thinkin is id know soon enough if over heating due to proximity of engine, but not having ANY experience in driving these beauties yet im at a loss... cheers

Keep on running...

Does it run OK without the thermostat?

In Australia a lot of mechanics throw thermostat's in British vehicles away in an attempt to achieve better circulation, I have found this to be of little help unless the cooling system is faulty.
On the same note we don't have the cold weather like you guys and i would have thought a thermostat there would be more important than here in helping the motor to reach operating temperature quickly.
If your Commer is anything like mine,:I the sooner you can push in the choke the sooner you can stop blowing clouds of black smoke and running rough.
Id follow Pankys advice and fit a new thermostat;)

I run the standard recommended, UK thermostat here in OZ with no problems.

Your van looks great by the way and 45/50mph should be no problem on a standard running gear. Not including hills of course, you are in for a shock there[:0]

Lots of fun :D:D
