Oil

Hello,

So about to do a good distance in Charlie.

I have a little problem - the dip stick collar is floating about on the shaft so it is less than accurate.

I thought draining the oil and putting the correct amount in then re calibrating the sleeve on the stick would be best but could anyone confirm the capacity when at the correct level on the 1725cc engine?

many thanks,

Tom

Hi Tom, 7.5 pints or 4.3 litres.
I'll measure a dipstick in a bit so you can set it up properly.

Just confirming it's an iron head engine? The capacity is the same but I think the dipstick is different on the ally head.

Just checked and yours is different too. Is that 4.3 liters from in a completely empty engine? I'm just wondering what it would be from a 'oil change' point of view? Cripes!

Tom

I assume so, it's straight out of the manual. It also give the filter capacity as 1 pint but doesn't say if that's included in the sump volume, but I usually have a bit left over in a 4.5 litre can when I do an oil change so I suspect the 4.3 litres is total oil volume.
I think I'd put 4.5 litres in, run the engine to fill up the filter, switch off and let it settle for a while, see where it comes to on one of your many dipsticks and mark it as the max high point.

It'll be fine, the worst that will happen is you'll have oil p**sing out of the crank end scrolls:eek:;)

That's my new 7.5 metre one given to by a very good friend, I do have some actual friends you know:)
I think it's long enough for most dipsticks - including me:rolleyes:
