Oil Pressure Relief Valve

Hi All.
Hope you have all kept well during these trying times. Looks like we will be able to get the vans out of moth balls soon, which is what I am doing.
I have found that I seem to have a sticking oil relief valve and fortunately I found a new one in my box of bits. As I am not that mechanically minded i like to know what I am doing before I start. I wonder if there should be some sort of sealing washer under the head, there isn't one in the pack with the valve. I have spoken to our Martin but he couldn't remember so I would be grateful if anyone could let me know whether there should be and what sort.

I don't think there is but I'll check on a spare engine later just to make sure.
 
Hi. I’m not that mechanically minded either so don’t even know what one of those is lol. Yes will be great to go out and about. Got a trip to Cornwall the end of August camping.
 
Just checked my spare and there is a thin fibre washer under the head of the plug. I think you would get away with a few turns of PTFE tape under the head if you can't find a washer, thinking about it I'm pretty sure that's what I did last time as the fibre washer falls to bits once the plug it undone.
 
Thanks for all that. I probably have got a fibre in the box but wonder if a copper one would be even better or would it be too thick.
Is it critical how far the valve bolts in.

I don't think so as the valve seems to be a self contained unit but I would go as thin as possible the original one is about a thick as cornflake box card
 
Thanks for all the info Panky I will give it a go. At least now if it all goes wrong I have got somebody to blame. Seriously I am grateful for the help. Keep safe and let us hope we can enjoy our Commer's again.
