Oil leaking from rear hub

Hi all, I'm looking for a bit of speedy advice as I'm on holiday in France and our Commer has developed a problem. I think the rear hub oil seal has gone, as quite a bit of oil has come out of the offside hub drain hole on the back of the rear brake housing. Prior to going on holiday the rear diff oil was topped up, I'm not sure by how much though as it was done in a garage. So questions......

1) How much oil would you expect to be leaking out if it was overfilled?
2) If only a small amount should be expected from an overfill is our assumption that the rear hub oil seal has gone correct?

If so:

- Can we limp home if we keep topping up the oil?
- Assumming I can get a seal how easy is the seal to replace on a campsite with a basic tool set?
- Can anyone recommend anywhere to get one from that will send to France!

Any other suggestions or advice welcome

Many Thanks

Rick

I have spoken to Rick, hopefully we can sort it.

Hi all. Quick update - after eventually finding a garage that was open, we managed with a cunning combination of Allo-Allo style pronounciation and intricate sign-language to get the oil we need. So we can now limp home doing short journeys over a series of days. Many thanks to Martin for his advice and gentle reassurance. Now for a glass or nine of the old vin rouge!
