Number 10 Old Commer Bus.

Hi All,
I am in Sydney now, just got delivery of my 2nd commer bus. Its an early one with the single front blinkers.

Its quite rust free for an original, last used in the 80's. I spoke to the lady who used to drive it to pick up school kids. The only thing missing is the seats, i must chase her up.

The biggest problem is the missing rear curved glass windows. Does anyone make new ones of these ?

It even has the drop down step and lining on the inside of the doors and walls of the bus.

I will put some pics up tomorrow.

The red one is also a bus, with curved rear windows, but its the later front with the dual front lights.

A great collection[^] but I doubt if anyone is making the glass, there maybe some old ones lurking around some where:I

Probably not likely that Rootesparts (Netherlands) do the side glass either, but I just thought that they do a fair bit of glass for the vans and most other Rootes vehicles. Who knows, maybe they've got some old moulds there which they can use to curve that glass and cut it to shape.. Worth asking, at the very least.

These are the windscreens they do:

Good luck hunting. :)

well i took some pictures of the bus from queensland this afternoon. had a chance to look around it. Not too bad, but i think its done its fair share of actual use.
Love the air intake tunnel in the middle, ducts air straigh to the radiator. Queensland does get much hotter than melbourne. With this mod it should be possible to put a much bigger engine in.

love the step that automatically opens.

you can see it needs both rear windows. Thanks for the links Jostein.

shame it does not have all the rear seats, i must ring them back to see if its still around somewhere.

Its not the original engine as they said they went through a few as they wore out !! So perhaps this will be a garden ornament for a while more, the camper first, then my other complete original bus, then a van...

Not a bad van there. Looks to me like it's had a shunt at the back end resulting in the very reason i have removed the bumpers...:(

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHA!!!

Hi Commer-Pete,
Yes the rear has had a bump.. as well as the front, but they are easy repairs.

I am waiting to be in Melbourne long enough to have my camper painted like yours. Love your color scheme...

Am I being daft or would one of the latest (huge) Audi A6 type grilles with corresondingly huge air intake behind look good on there?

Peggy's got Sounds

bazateer, you must have been reading my mind about the grill, an Audi o !!
The Audi or older subaru inverted V gril is what i though when i first noticed this, non OEM vent.

But it will take away the smiley face and turn it into a grump like gordon (i think he is the grumpy one, my daughter is 19 now)

You are really lucky, having 3 buses, I'd love to get my hands on just one as it'd form the best basis for my day van plans. Good luck on finding the rear glass, could you maybe use perspex as a,(temporary,) replacement until glass is found?

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I love all 4 wheeled vehicles, irrespective of age, (apart from Mondeos and Focus').

Perspex is a good idea, use a hair dryer or hot air gun to make it more pliable for the curves, when it cools it should stay curved.

Peggy's been camping!

I have visions now we've suggested that........ cruising down the road one day, the perspex deciding that the curve isn't really in it's nature and pinging itself out back along the highway to land flat on the road before getting run over by the truck behind.

I have glass and rubbers, but how do you get it to Oz without brakeing it [?][xx(]
