Not So Big Fail

Percy has failed his MOT but not as badly as I thought.

My concerns were the emissions and brakes-neither came up as fails

Fails.

1.Registration light not working
2.Offside front posistion lamp not working
3.Nearside rear posistion lamp adversly affected by another lamp
4.Nearside front shock absorber insecure
5.Offside front shock absorber insecure
6.Centre exhaust has leak
7.Parking brake below requirements

So.

The electrics are dodgy earths as ive had problems with these before and by fidling about they come back on.
The tester said the exhaust issue wasnt as bad as it seems just the clamp wants tightening up.
I assume the handbrake just wants some adjusting.
Main items are the front shocks- the guy said the bushes at the top of the shocks are shot.

Are these bushes integral to the front shock or are they separate?

Goodnews is apparently the chassis and underneath are in good nick and I bet not many unrestored Commers get through an MOT without any welding so not too bad overall

That's good news. You've nothing to worry about there - you got off very lightly indeed by the looks of it! 3-4 hrs work?

Depends on how easy it is to drop the front shocks-ive had a look on Speedy Spares but cant see anything about fron shock upper bushes.Im just worried I need to fork out for 2 new front shocks now:(

That doesn't sound too bad at all, its always a concern that there will be something major wrong with older vehicle.
kjh;)

Just a bit of wear and tear - shows its being used and not seizing up through inactivity [^]
