Panky, if that one is a '59, it would have had the original 948cc Herald engine!! I worked in a Standard/BMC/Hillman agency when the Atlas first came out, and we had a pick-up as our service vehicle. It was so underpowered as to be unbelievable. It was sold to a painter and decorator after only a few months, and I don't think we ever sold another! The Commer and BMC J2 were much better vans.Later models were badged as Leyland 20, and I believe had the Standard Vanguard engine, but I'd moved to pastures new by then, so had no dealings with them.
Interesting that this one has been fitted with the BMC motor.

Your not wrong - a whole 948 cc's:I they had the idea that people would carry empty boxes around - didn't recon on those awkward types who actually loaded the things up with heavy stuff [:0]
