Norther Spain -Bilbao/Santander

Hi All,

Has anyone been camping along the coast and further inland among the mountains of northern spain?
I'm thinking of taking the Commer for an adventure on the long ferry ride in June/July, if anyone has experience of this area campsites/road conditions etc I would be glad to hear them.

All the best

Mike

Roads in Spain are absolutely fine. Good motorway network, and most of the main roads are well maintained. Particularly nice are near Santander are the Pico de Europa in Cantabria. The north coast in either direction is very nice, apart from Bilbao. Can't say for the camping, but were it me I'd be heading towards Gijon, and Galicia. If you look hard enough, you can even find remains of Civil war battlefields.

Funny you should mention this - a mate has moved to Bilboa and mentioned there is a campsite at the end of the metro line so you can have a camping city break!

I spent a couple of summers in a village called Escairon, near Monforte de Lemos, quite a bit inland. Galicia is a lovely part of Spain, and where I was is close to the Río Miño which is very picturesque and loads of places for camping off the beaten track.

Only downside in a Commer is that it's quite mountainous. :D

Hope you do decide to go. I have a lot of happy memories of the place, and they do know how to do a Fiesta! Worth looking out for in the summer months.
