non working horn

This is probably one of the easiest problems to solve in the commer electrics world, but I don't really know where to start. From reading other threads, I gather that it is a purple wire I need to tackle. But how is the horn wired up? I looked under the front of the van, and the horn seems to be made up by two parts, wired up.

What is likely to have gone wrong? Should I take the multimeter out (not that I know how to use it very well...)?

It looks like someone has wired up twin horns, the first place to start is the dodgy looking taped connection - looks like someone had had trouble there before:I

While you're down there apply 12v across the horn contacts to make sure the horn itself is functioning.

interesting! Barry, how would I do that? ie. with jump start leads straight from the battery?

Either that or just a couple of lengths of wire from the battery. Has the horn just stopped working or has it always been faulty?

It must have worked, since it has an MOT. But I have not heard it working, I´ve only had the van for a short period of time. MOT time is approaching very fast so I need to sort it out.

Ok, so the horn is now sorted. I opened the casing under the steering wheel, and the cable for the horn was loose. My flatmate lent me a solder iron, but the problem was to get electricity to the van, since there is no mains connection anywhere close to the parking. So I heated the iron in the flat, for a good 15min, stack it in a bottle to retain the heat and run to the van.
All working now (fingers crossed) for the MOT. Does anyone know a Commer friendly MOT station in the Windsor area?
