No 9 Has arrived...

Well there is 5 in my front lawn... and the rest on a farm a few hours away. Am heading up to the farm on the weekend to find bits as most of those have had the drive lines and bits removed and scattered over the years... will be like an easter hunt for commer bits..

Comm-Don, what shade of red is yours, i really it..does it have a dulux code ? or something similiar.

1 Van is a really early one, no hole for the grill. but no motor / auto.
1 van is single blinker, with hole for grill, is complete and drives but very rusty.
1 Van is dual blinkers, good body, but not motor / trans.
1 Van is dual blinkers, very good body, no motor / trans.

1 bus, greeny one, single blinkers, is complete, rust free, but motor spun bearings. (my fav...)
1 bus white / red, no motor / trans good body. but chassis played with.
1 bus white just a shell

1 camper auto, drives well, has the small pop top, rusty in the roof, interior poor.
1 camper, the latest, complete and running.

I think thats it.. I have put pictures of all on this forum previously.

I think commers are perfect for conversion to electricty... I have located 30Kw Motors and Controllers from China for $A 5K. All one needs are batteries and a false floor in the back. Next have a stacked array of solar pannels that can open out and double the collection capacity....backed up with a small generator of course

I am keeping the shells for such a project when i get the time.

To be perfectly honest David i haven't a clue as we got pretty much no paperwork with Duke when we brought him. Infact we brought him from a chap on here. He doesn't show up very often, but now that we can email from member to member i may just drop him one? There are a few things i'd still like to ask him myself. All i can say is that it's a " Funny " red HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Because some say red and others say orange/burnt orange??? I say red!

I may not have to cut a piece off? He's off for M.O.T on friday and depending on how hard the inspectorate prods around, a piece may just fall off:-O, bloody hope not mind you HAHAHAAA.

I went for a long drive today, about 5 kms. There is oil pouring out the front. I think the seals around the crank at the front are gone. So had to make a hasty retreat...

As i have very limited time. Can someone please outline changing the front balancer seal ?

Normally its just a case of removing the harmonic balancer, poping out the seal, hammering one back in and your done. Anything different with these ? its a 1973 model. I think the 1700cc engine.

Appreciate some tips.

Could it be the sump cork seal - the bit around the bearing housing. You have to take off a couple steering linkages but the sump comes off without taking the engine out. Make sure when you fit the new gasget and cork seal you put a blob of sealant in the corners where the bearing caps meet the block - it's all shown in the manual and as admin says it's free to down-load off the website.

I have all the manuals tks.

None of them show any kind of oil seal on the timing chain cover, hence my question.

No mention is made in any manual fo a timing chain Cover Seal for the crank / harmonic balancer.

Its freezing cold here and dark at 5pm, so no time to investigate.....
 
Well today we had sunshine in Melbourne !!

Went to the car wash, blasted the sump area, got home and it was soaked in oil..so had to clean it again and start it for a about 3 minutes and then i can see the oil running down the front of the sump..

Panky, spot on !!! I think its pouring out from one corner, where the sump gasket meets the front main bearing cap. time to go find a sump gasket set and wait for next weekend.
