Had a call during the week, from an 87 year old lady, Agness Walker in York. She was the origonal owner of Lucy [:0] Her and her husband bought it new from York Motor Caravans (formerly Hughes and Gooby), the convertors.
They specified no rear doors and Whally Hughes designed and manufactured the 1st fibreglass rear panel for them, which then went into production.
They also wanted a toilet. Mr Hughes said this was not possible, as the van was too small, but Agness went round measuring all the portable loos available and found one that would fit between the cooker and wardrobe.
When the van was delivered, Mr Walker had just had a hernia opperation, they had booked a holiday to Porstmouth, so Agness had to drive all the way, there and back.
They took the van all over Europe and as far north as Norway and Lapland [:0]
Whilst travelling through Norway, she recalled getting a puncture at a place called Hell. They went to the local garage to see if he had any tyres, he shook his head as if to say no chance [V] But after searching thru' piles in his garage, came out with a tyre of the correct size
Today I also contacted the Daughter of Mr Hughes, she was very surprised to hear from me. Apparently, her and her sister had been trying to find one of their old vans.
Her father used to hire the campers out, as well as converting them Anyway, she is going to call in sometime, so I may be able to find out more.
