New Years Commerolutions!!!

I forgot ,if you use the hunter manifold with a 5/16 inch plate no cutting of the car is required .I use a 4 inch ram tube with a redline sock type air filter .If you have trouble with repco with the rings ring A C L teck line and they will give you the part numbers, ring meterial has improved in 30 years ,so new is better than N O S. .We here in Australia have the world leading SU people ,look up Midel S U ,ring them with the weight of your car compacity ,cruising r p m and they will tell you the needle and spring . best of luck.

Off the top of peoples head whats the crankshaft pulley nut size, save me measuring it up so I can get a socket!!!!!

SILENT NO MORE!!

After sitting in the background on the forums for a long time, out of sheer embarrassment at the total lack of progress on my camper, I am ubber proud to say that I am finally able to post again. BECAUSE THE COMMER IS RUNNING!!!!!

Had many trials and tribulations to get past, finally found someone to weld the cast head, got the new rings, pistons, valves, guides, timing chain blaa blaa blaa, and HEY PRESTO.

Here are some shots of the engine all bolted back together!!

A couple of close up of the HIF6 install I have done, I am still hunting for a decent Hunter manifold to change this setup over, until then though this seems to work well enough!

I even got new lino for the floor in the back and some opulent looking bed covers and cushions!!!

Currently I am half way through fitting a dual battery system and some ancillary electrics to run off the secondary battery, most important of which is a laptop charger!!!

Feels great to finally have it back together, and now I can hold my head up high, I can post on the forum once again!!!!!

Well done on the progress. One minor suggestion based on the experience of others on this forum :- it may be an idea to mount the coil away from the engine, to prevent it from getting too hot.

Here are some more shots of me playing with all the new toys I bought to get the old Commer van up and running as smooth as I most possibly could!

Here is my fancy timing light with RPM, voltmeter and dwell reading. Actually a nifty little tool for getting the time right. I managed to get the dwell to about 61* which I was happy enough with and the idle RPM is at about 850-870

Here is a shot of the timing marks as close to 8* BTDC as I could get them! Which was surprisingly easy compared to trying to take a photo of the marks and at the right moment!!

Here is a small shot showing the fire retardent, self adhesive, engine bay sound proofing matt I fitted to all the bonnet sections to help try and keep the cabin a bit quieter as you drive (It's the black stuff). Was really easy to fit so I hope it makes a difference!

I bought both the Gunson Colour Tune, wich has always been my tool of choice for mixture setting, and their EG analyser which I had never used before but was really keen to try out.

It was actually really simple to use and very accurate, so it's got a thumbs up from me. Basically you just plug it into your battery, let it calibrate in free air until a stable reading of 2% is reached, then shove the pipe down the exhaust and adjust it to the correct reading is obtained (I was going for 3.5 to 4.5% which seems an average for older cars?).

The sensor housing on the back did continually fall off, which changed to readings and was very annoying. But I soon fixed that with lots of duck tape!

Here is the nice "Bunsen Burner Blue" on the colour tune to confirm the mixture is set about right.

Now I have to finish my dual battery rig up, and re-wire my blinkers as there acting up and we will be good to go!!!
