New Tyres

We have 102/100R 185R/14c tyres on the van at the mo and given they are getting a bit low on tread and look a bit tierd they are getting changed this weekend.

Does anyone know if these are Ok I am a bit worried about the speed/load (not the speed bit obviously) as they are rated at about 850kg I think. As i know nothing about this does that mean I can add all four together which makes it OK or do they need to be rated higer each. I have asked the garage to make sure they are comeercial rated van tyres as I think I saw that in another thread but wouldn't know how to tell if what they fitted was:I
 
The 'C' usually denotes a commercial tyre - it's often written on the tyre as well.

Cheers, still not sure about the load though? I have found the other thread now. See Martin reccommends 185/70C, would this fit my wheels based on the tyre I have at the mo as mine says 185/14C on it. Does the 70 mean it has more weight rating? (I thought the 102/100R related to teh weight load/speed which doesn't seem to be on the other thread.

Normal tyre apsect ratio is 80 (tyre wall height is 80% of tyre width)
So 185-14 is standard 80% ratio. Width is 185mm. Rim diameter is 14".

185-70-14 is 70% etc so tyre wall height is 70% of 185mm.

They will fit but with a smaller wall height the gearing will be lowered.

R will mean either radial or maybe R speed rating. Speed rating won't be an issue for a Commer really as I think the lowest rating is somewhere around 105mph.

So, if I want to replace the old tyres on Babs, and I want to keep the correct aspect ratio so that the speedo isn't affected - I will need 185/80-R15?

My old tyres don't have the aspect ratio on them

Cheers. The 102 load rating is 850kg (thanks Panky) which is the payload for each tyre. Presumably that means they take a 1/4 each so would deal with a weight of 3400KG (enough for plenty of beer and food) as long as I don't do any two wheel cornering or emergency stops:p If it is half then that would still be 1700Kg which based on the guestimates of van weights would seem to be just about OK. If it is for the total I am f****d[B)]
 
There is a specific tyre available for motorhomes and campervans as they are needed to do totally different jobs to van tyres due to weight distribution, we at work use Ski tyres and find them pretty good at supplying at short notice. if you put ordinary van tyres on, it will affect what is already poor handling, especially on the coachbuilts. hope that helps:D:p
