Dear All, I would like to introduce myself. My name is Colin along with very patient wife Helen, we have bought a Commer Autohome 1975 from the guy who called himself 'Beachboy'(I think?). It features somewhere in the forum as the very shiney one!! I will post some pics when I find out how to do it!
Being completely mad(I believe this is the criteria) the Commer is just one of our projects! We have a 1960 JH Taylor Wooden canal boat in the process of restoration and I am currently reconditioning 2 1970's Motobecane fold up motorbikes, so as you can see we will probably fit in!!! I find this site most useful as it has given me huge amounts of information and I look forward to meeting some of you at one of the 'meets':)

The canal boat sounds amazing - and probably quicker than a Commer in a straight line! Got any pics ;)
 
Thanks, you will find some boat pic's on www.jhtaylorboats.com Our boat is 'Barbara Joan' but there are others showing the finished target! We have made significant progress with re-planking and I will post pictures if someone could remind me how to do it, I think it's through photobucket?? As for the speed, 'Barbara Joan' will do about 7/10 MPH, and the Commer with the overdrive box........65?:D

would anyone like a seabat boat? almost like a windsurfer but more boaty, wooden and really used to train with I guess

Yes it was me with the narrowboat, but mine was a modern steel boat, not a historic wooden one. I get by with a radio controlled model now! Welcome to the forum and good luck with the restoration.

Narrowboats and Commers share a number of characteristics: not too fast in a straight line, a little vague round corners, susceptible to cross winds, not much of a handbrake, but lots of character. :D
