hello all :D

my lovely boyfriend bought me an autosleeper (i think thats the one it is!) you may have seen it in the for sale section..

im hoping to learn lots here as i know little about them having been into VWs most of my life, im excited to get it home and make plans

heres a couple of pics from the for sales so you know which one i mean

Welcome over from the darkside!

I think this is a CI Motorhome not an Autosleeper. Most importantly though its a commer! (or a Dodge badged Commer)

I think I am going to stop there as I am sounding too geeky even for myself!

Welcome! We wait to hear of your adventures; have you named the van or inherited a name?

PS quite a bargain! Fingers crossed for a quick MOT to enjoy it on the road this summer

Welcome to the forum, great to hear from you - am glad the old 'dog' (I love the letters on the front) is going to learn some new tricks[8D]

Van looks like it'll come up really well and has a lot of scope for you to get it how you want it - bet it'll seem huge inside after owning VWs.
I'd love to find out how you get on with this one - will be great if you can keep us posted;)

you dont sound too geeky! :p whats the difference between an autosleeper and a motorhome?

he is just called 'dog' :D

i wont know what to do with all the inside space, im used to vw bay windows! :)
 
Autosleeper is what 80% of surviving vans seem to be; they have a specific raising roof - your has much more space

Take a look at http://www.commervanfan.co.uk/vans.htm on the right hand side "members' vans" and you should see some of the different conversions out there
 
Hi and welcome, we are also new to the site only had our van 11 days, it seems much longer, check out whats happened so far with our commer highwayman. Everybody is very helpful and its just nice to chat with others who are interested in the old commers.

the different conversions are very similar to some of the conversions on vw's you will pick it all up :)

this appears to be similiar to mine, I have a Motorhome ehich in body shape is identical the main difference seems to be the side windows the middle panel on mine is plastic with small air vents in. Studio posted a copy of the original brochure on here for me.

well, ive been reading threads in my spare time, which unfortunatly isnt much. we have just brought a house that needs restoration so i dont get to come on here alot.

Dog is now home and i must say im pretty smitten already! our new neighbour told us there was a scrap yard near by, we have only had the keys to the new place 3 weeks, luckily they all seem to be fine about him staring at them when they look out their windows :p

i spent alot of today looking in through the windows (i was meant to be doing house stuff!) at one point the father in law said i looked like a kid with no money looking through a sweet shop window, then a little while later the other half shouted out 'your not still looking at that bus are you?!' lol :I

i cant help but make plans, we can rebuild the inside no probs, im into vintage caravans aswell and we did the same sort of scale of work on one last year. the welding can be done by a friend so i best starte saving for a respray and wheels.

i dont suppose there are any commer based magazines out are there or do you just look in the classics and keep an eye out for any articles they feature?

my i talk alot dont i?! ill shut up now and start reading some more :D
 
Don't worry emerald I do that all the time :II have 3 campers on the drive [:eek:)]
practical classics have had a few commers featured.
classic van & pick-up well worth a read lots of old caravans campers & the occasional commer.
classic car weekly.
Get the house sorted then you will be free to tackle Dog ;)

hi Emerald, we are new to the site to, saw dog advertised but decided that we wanted something with less work involved that we could use straight off, so we've bought the Wilma off ebay, picking her up on friday ( I have to work 10 hr shift :( so hubby getting her)I can't wait! all our kids really excited too. Good luck with with refurb. post pics so we can see how you're doing :) Jayne xx
