Yep that's the one, and well done for finding your bulbous endTry a longer piece of material to poke right up into the heater box , or a length of curtain wire, to dislodge the debris - we wouldn't want you heater box to rust out
No problem really leaving the end off the drain, you will loose a bit of blow from the heater as it flows down the pipe.

Personally I use Comma 20/50 mineral in all my cars as they don't do high mileage. But Halfords Classic 20/50 is very good although over twice the price.
