Hi everyone,
I'm new to the commer scene and have just picked up what i think is a 61 model, i found a plate that said Commer ¾ ton series 11 or does it go by distinguishing body parts. There is no rust to speak of and has no cupboards inside, the poptop is an accordian style plastic.
From what i can gather the van had the holden 6cyl conversion at one time but now sports a Nissan L20B 2lt motor with an auto box which hasn't been started for quite a few years, I tried to kick her over today she wanted to start but i was having trouble getting spark, to many bared and melted wires i think i'll have another go tomorrow.
If anyone can put a date and any info on her it would be great.

Hi Frank and welcolme. Sounds like you have a '61, has it got a single front side light/indicator unit and 3 chrome bars accross the front panel, with no front grille[?]
Difficult to identify the conversion without pics, but at that year it could be a Maidstone conversion, the factory camper. Has it got wrap round rear corner windows[?]

I am no expert but with the grill and three bars it is between 62-65? It does look like a maidstone from what I can see! Very Nice indeed!:D

Almost definitely a Maidstone, the chrome side strips are another giveaway:) Slightly late, 62 on as Mike said, as it has a grille. Very nice though and looks very solid :p

Great to see another Commer in the land down under.

Looks really sound and a great project.
I noticed the plates, Is it licensed?. Great if it is as the holden motor should move it nicely. If not it could be a problem to license.
I dont know what they "licensing" are like in QLD but in WA they wont do it.


We are currently touring south WA in our 1970 Model and struggling through a week of 40+CDeg. With the slow chugging up hills i often wish mine was a six cylinder. I have the original 4.

Anyway all the best with it and keep us posted.

Hi Everyone thanks for the great welcome, we've been doing a roadie down to melboure and back for xmass and have been away from the computor it's just great to see the support you guys give each other. the other van belongs to the guy i bought mine off it's all original so he is going to restor it as well. My wife said the van looked like Miss Piggy so when i registered to the forum i used that name but now we don't like it and want to change it to Hughie after her late father, is it posible to change the user name now?.
With the conversion i think your right it is a Maidstone the van was emty when i picked it up (no interior)and at one stage there was a holden 6cyl fitted but has been replaced with a L20B 2lt Nissan with auto box.
At this stage i have removed the motor and gearbox degreased and steam cleaned.
there is one small spot of rust above the drivers side rear wheel on top of the wheel arch, the body just needs a respray and only surface rust under the van a real easy resto for a change.I did post some photos in Readers Rides.
