hi, im dez, 22, living in ipswich.

ive got this, which i bought for the princely sum of £399, after selling my splitscreen vw van for £6k!!! [:0]

its a '72 PB with a dormobile coaster conversion. i bought it as an MOT failure but its in fairly good nick, i needs 3 or 4 little bits of welding,some tyres and a couple of front suspension parts replacing.
good job we inherited a rotten PB luton van with our house to steal those from!!
im in the process or parting out the luton so let me know if you need anything.

i build hotrods and cutom cars all day, so i have at least half a dozen cars at any one time. between me and my girlfriend we currently have the commer, 2 stacklight mercedes, 2 beetles, a '60 ford falcon wagon, a '28 ford model A sedan hotrod with cadillac v8, a land rover, a rover 216 and a jag xj6!!!
 
welcome to the forum Dez...nice collection of motors you have!!, Rover 216?..lol!..:D..Im sure youll soon have the commer sorted!:D
 
Hi Dez, what a bargain! How bad is the luton[?]I have a '30 model A hotrod, with blown rover V8 :D and a 73 Plymouth Valliant.
 
the rover was free so i cant complain :D

the luton wasnt that bad compared to some on here, but the back was earmarked for a storage shed and it wasnt mine anyway, but i was told i could have the rest to rape for parts. tbh the entire floor and chassis is fairly good and may make a resonable donor for someones project, it was the cab floor and steps that was nackered.

my model A is chopped 5.5" and channelled 4", i was working on it over the winter but its now put to one side til the commer and a few other things are done. ive been working on lowering the commer as well as repairing the rust, ive dropped the back down about 6.5" [:0] by mounting it spring under axle instead of spring over, by fabricating new shackles and spring seats and using landrover U-bolts. its so low ive had to cut the floor for diff clearance and notch the chassis rais for the axles!!! best bit is it will ride like stock with full suspension travel, but much less body roll.
on the front ive dropped it 2" by fitting low profile tyres, and ile soon be cutting the springs and modifying the bumpstops so it matches the back.
after that,i need to buy a volvo as i need the rear axle for my merc racecar, so the commer may end up with a volvo motor to pull it along a bit quicker........;)
 
Sounds like youre as mad as the rest of us. My A is stock steel body, with jag irs and newly planted Blown V8. Formerly had stock V8. Just been to order new rad today, as the blower belts would foul the old one. So should be back on the road very soon :D:D:D:D

hi there dez woolfy here mate just let me know if you need any new panels making for the commer,she looks a cracker i think you are going to do the same sort of treatment to yours as i was going to do to mine,only differance is you sound like you know what your doing where as i dont, so if you like you can give me a call and i might have a job for you with the lowering of mine,i was going to try and fit a triumph 2.5 s engine and gearbox into mine do you think it will fit ok. my number is 07941 906259 just ask for martin or woolfy thats me of course cheers mate.:D[8D]
 
woolfy- do you do door bottom skins? its about the only bit need, i got one good secondhand door coming, so id like to reskin the other side to match. that and maybe a short section of ribs for the rear wheel arch, i can duplicate there myself as i have a beadroller but if youre already making them that may be easier for me. only other possible area is the rear inner valance that the chassis rail meets, for the passenger side.

as for lowering, ile give you a ring when ive got mine done so i can give you the full story. to lower it as much as mine is quite serious modification though, it involves cutting the floor and chassis, and the axle, so its not for the faint hearted!!! itll give you about 6.5" of drop, itll ride as stock but without the body roll. it may be hard to get your rear wheels on and off though depending on what you have fitted.

as for the engine, i wouldnt bother fitting something as old as the triumph motor. the 3 major factors are economy, reliability, and power, so to get all these you need to aim for something much more modern, hecne me thinking 2.3L volvo motor. it comes out of a big ol barge that weighs about the same as a commer and gets used for lugging stuff about all the time, has twice the power of the 1725, yet is very reliable and much better on fuel than a sock 1725.
i want to keeo the stock gearbox in, it means i dont have to deal with complicated shift linkage issues, and the gearbox ratios are about matched to the rear axle ratio.
 
hi there dez i got your message im not the faint hearted type and i deffinatly want it doing ,im gonna do a full rebuild on the old girl but i want to customize her a bit aswell but like you keep the stock look about her, so make sure you give me a ring because if you dont lower it i will have to get somone else to do it for me ,the moneys better off in your pocket.as for the lower door skins i can get you some as soon as you like,they are £40.00 each , and i can make you some side sills if you like ,try to take a look at some of my earlier posts showing what we make ,cheers from woolfy.:D[8D]
