You will prob get done for not completing the log book in then!
If you do will put an owner on everytime you do it. At the end of the day the computer knows all and says NO:D;)

This is another example of "one size fits all" govt policy.
I am all for road safety and vehicles being in a roadworthy condition, I spend a lot of money each year making sure my truck is A1 and even take driver courses to keep up with current rules and have my driving assessed, I actually took AA AutoTech on Monday.
I wanted to upgrade to a 6t recovery vehicle a while ago and called Vosa to get all the info I needed to stay inside the law and was told that to get an O licence now as well as the usual running of ads in the paper, in case someone objects to you having a vehicle, you now have to have a qualified transport manager to look after the vehicle and an amount of cash in a bank account to show you can maintain and fix the vehicle, the figure mentioned was £10k ! Now that might be ok for a largeish company with a fleet of vehicles but hardly practical or fair for a small one man business and it does nothing to encourage your business to grow and expand. There was a lot more to it than that but by that time I had switched off and decided to stick with my 3.5t truck.
The other bit of bad news is that in the not too distant future even 3.5t vehicles will have to use a tacho and all drivers will have to take the CPC test before they can drive it.
Makes you wonder if its worth carrying on :(

Its a joke isn't it. I've looked into the O licence and its 5 grand in the bank you need. Plus like you say a qualified person to maintain your truck/fleet. If your not a qualified mechanic yourself there is nothing stopping you putting a qualified mechanic(if you know one) on the paper work but if something were to happen then he would be liable if it was mechanical failure that caused accident.

I think something needs to be done though as there are to many cowboys driving round in knackered trucks charging money for back hander recoveries which is stopping the law abiding ones making any money.

I heard it from Vosa themselves, looking like next year but not definate, one thing is for sure though it will happen and just think about how many millions of tradesman that will affect...and its all about safety? mmmm more about raising revenue and keeping govt staff in jobs ;)

I can't find much on the nternet, but it seems that the limit is coming down to 2.8 tonnes. Anything above that is going to need a tachograph.

Nuts, but unless we leave the EU, it's going to have to be implemented.....

Seems labour MEPs were happy to vote for the changes.
