Funny one this. Was just reading through the Classic Camper Club bi-monthly journel and came across this.

Very common in the US on pickups. They call them a 5th wheeel for some reason I have never been able to fathom

The Yank ones (the BIG ones) usually fit onto a fifth wheel mounted on the truck lad bed just like an articulated lorry and have their own wheels also. They also have this type but I don't think they call these fifth wheelers though.

Cool! I've never seen this one before, but you get a lot of Bedford Rascals with demountable camping units. Looks like you need to climb a flight of stairs to get in it though.
