That certainly looks like a full on restoration. Does the jig bolt to the front chassis members? Did you have room to roll the car in the garage, or is the jig on rollers to take out and back in the garage?

At the front the i made arms on the jig run down the inner wing, it bolts onto the front chassis through the wholes where the bumper mouts bolt to ( they go all the way through front chassis.
At the back it bolts through bumper holes to plates which are tack welded to rear chassis.
I drove the car into garage and then stripped everything i could out, jacked it and attached the spit, i have wheels which attach to the jig to move it but this can only be done while the car is upside down because the car would hit the garage roof when normal way up.
When wheels are off jig the car can be turned 360.
 
Liking the Hog roast for the commer, might need it if i buy the van in question,
I welded in bracing steel across the doors and bulk head then from those points cross brace to gearbox tunnel to stop twisting and colapsing with so much being taken out.

What you reckon £200 for the commer and a glass of wine, she will be happy with that surely.
 
There's a post on CVF that I'll try to find up where somebody has access to the original Commer build details and for a small fee can supply these. Voila, if they match the vehicle's own no.s this probably confirms that the DVLA are incorrect (won't be the first time post-computerisation) but not I'm sure what evidence they need.

If you could confirm this info yourself beforehand, maybe you save the owner the hassle and offer 'as seen' and follow up with the DVLA instead. Just a thought

Chassis numbers - Is yours tax exempt ??

It mentions a guy called Mike Worthington-Williams who can supply copies of build sheets for Commers at £30 a pop. Debs mentions on page 4 that she has his details but I guess other may also have this now.

Try not to complicate things too much.....if the mot is the only thing different,They have almost definately made a mistake,All I had to do was send the mot back it was replaced by the dvla within a week or so.

as for the rot its not a problem as we make all of the panels that you will need to restore it, as long as you take that into account and make sure that you have enought money set aside to enable you to buy the stuff that you need.if i was making an offer for it id probably start off at the four to five hundred pound mark. i cant belive it has an mot with that rott in the front floor pans.;):D
 
What'd I give to have a peak as solid as that ;)

Shame it's not as good as first glance but like Woolfy says it could be sorted ...

im not saying that this is what has happened , but someone could have moted another van but with that ones plates on it to try and get an mot on the van.like i sais i would be suprised if it passed with those front floor pans. but it would still make a basses for a project van.;):p
 
I would agree with woolfys estimate. The rot you mentioned is fixable and to have a solid peek like that and good jacking points is a definite BIG bonus. The interior is Autosleeper but the roof is not, the side windows don't look like autosleeper either so at some point the interior may have been replaced. If you can satisfy yourself of its identity and she is willing to part with it then go for it - for the kind of money suggested I would.

i know that in this day and age people want to get as much for the vans as possible, but you as the buyer must remember that to fully restore a van costs money, and i can let you know that if you were to replace all of the bottom half panels on that van it will set you back a good couple of thousand pounds, that is with new floor pans and inner cills of course. but if you buy at to high a price to start off with and then you restore it, the cost then out weighs the value of what it will be worth in the end. ;)

I've no idea what a PB3 is, probably been told by the guy who sold it to her to bump up the interest.

To be honest, you'd have to be pretty brave to take this one on; I'd say £300-£400 absolute tops, but the market is turning. The join between the fluted panel and the side looks bridged with nasty filler so probably hides all sorts. I don't know what your abilities are, but this looks like one for the pros to tackle... that said, the front end looks in much better shape than mine!
