Clarabel just back from Coventry after a few days at work -The rush hour traffic realigned the gearbox bushes and I came back with no problems and all five gears! (Thanks Martin!)
The show was amazing with every day bringing more loveley people with stories to tell - I let dozens of families sit in Clarabel to rekindle old memories (No I didn't sell tickets Martin!);two families retold the tale of visiting Europe in the 60's 70's -They both completed trouble free month long tours of France, Belgium,Austria, Germany,Italy -sleeping six inside an Autosleeper! Which brings me to an important visitor within the first hours of Friday when the Founder of Autosleeper Ltd turned up -shook hands and signed my original catalogue from the Motor Show in 1975 - I had just been telling everyone that the interior had been designed by a genius and then he told me the story of how he mocked up the layout and then went camping himself for a few days to check the function and 'use every available bit of space'. There really is no comparison between an Autosleeper interior and a VW. Another visitor was the owner of the company who made and still produces the GRP lifting roof- another brilliant achievement when so many of the 1970 GRP cars were subjected to star shakes and UV damage. A cautionary tale from two other families who both 'drove over their spare wheels' and only just survived the experience- Both wheels had dropped from the wheel carrier under the body with near disasterous results- Worth everyone checking for rust!!
The stand looked great and all was well organised thanks to Jon and Co. (The banners looked good too Matt) -Many thanks Jon /Rich + Dad for all of the lifts -saved hours and crowded train journeys.
Highlight of the show had to be the personal story of the Butchers Daughter who dropped everything and came immediately she heard from friends that her 94 year old Dad's van was on show - You just can't buy moments like that! Priceless!
See you all sometime next year- really enjoyed your company this time!
