Except that's a needle roller type which fall apart when worn and cause mayhem - better to stick with a phosphor-bronze one which has been soaked in oil overnight. It absorbs the oil and self-lubricates for it's lifetime and just wears away instead of falling apart.

So, if there IS play in the crankshaft is it most likely to be the bush/bearing behind the clutch? it's one of them that comes out with a chisel (carefully) then gets driven in with a hammer and oversized socket?

No if there is play in crank push pull it is the half moon ones inside the engine(will try and talk in col language now) big job

It,s unlikely to be the spigot bush if the noise disappears when the pedal is pressed. It sounds like your clutch fork/thrust bearing is catching on the pressure plate "fingers". is there any free play in the clutch arm ? and which way did you put the slave cylinder on ?

Hi Tim Will check for free play....slave is gearbox side of flange...

I think it is supposed to be the other side. Take it off and see if the noise is still there

which side should it be is a question often asked here...there seems to be some debate on this.......?

The manual is a little unclear on this...remove and refitting is a reverse procedure..all well and good if you can remember

I was going to ask that too Chas, but i don,t think you can actually fit the plate the other way

Oops! deleted my post instead of editing it!
I asked if maybe the clutch plate was on the wrong way round, it's happened to me, but I had a horrible noise when I depressed the clutch. If it is, it catches the nuts on the fly wheel.

ooops, that was confusing.........ok, just had a thought...I made sure the plate was the right way round (it says 'flywheel' on one side, but I took it out temp coz the lugs on the pressure plate wouldn't line up then I slipped the clutch back in and don't think I checked it again:I...could this be my problem though? ...as Chas just said, he got a noise when the peddle was depressed...whereas mine is noisy until I press the peddle?

This is ours thought to be in the correct pos

Like Tim, don't think its the spigot bush because it would be noisy
when the clutch is released and brought into play.
