My V8 Commer

Kinda heart warming to know it happens to the best of us eh?

Not that I would wish tht on anyone of course!!

John is on holiday in Cornwall this week, the V8 decided to liberate it's gearbox oil 8 miles from the festival we both went to at the weekend, resulting in a tow truck back to Alton for john, where he picked up his landrover and a tent :(.
Expect damage reports once he is back this weekend.

FRODO LUVS YA!

Back from Cornwall.. the washing is on, have to distribute gifts this evening then may get to crawl around underneath tomorrow!

We knew it was losing oil - assuming via gasket so topped up before leaving. To give Frodo and the v8 a chance we stopped a little over half way, checked levels etc and all was ok (this is after the motorway section). It must be on the windy road section where it lost a lot of oil indeed. as chas said 8 miles away it just wouldn't put any power down in forward gear and was loosing lot of oil so we went and got yet more to no avail.

The AA man took one look under as it was in drive and said "its leaking from somewhere so fast you don't stand a chance" and kindly offered to take my van home and bring be a hire car but as we were off to cornwall I picked up the disco.

So... anyone with B&W 66 auto box experience have any clues why transmission fluid get chucked out in Drive? theres a massive area on the drive now since we've been away... research mode engaged!

what a bummer :( depends where its coming out, could be a main seal,or it could have split a pipe to the oil cooler [?]

"you were only supposed to blow the bloody SLIDING doors off"

I had one that the dipstic tube had come loose and it threw it out from there :I

Thats 2 peeps said about dipstick tubes recently....Bluemouse did too! is this a common problem?

oil cooler fitted; will check pipes! and I have a feeling its not from the top of the dipstick but could be where it is joining the sump

That's where mine leaked, at the joint with the sump [xx(]

Very nice job.
Have you done anything to the handling?
Reason I ask is mine starts getting very floaty (read scary) above 82 fully loaded and above 70 empty.
So I'd like more power but dont think Ive got the guts to use it.:I

I appreciate the COV is lowered but what else have you done?

Cheers
Jules

The rear end is Jag IRS so it handles nicely to the rear. The front has spacer/adapters so on the whole the wheels are spaced further out but still with the narrowed front beam. In all honesty I have not be brave enough to go more than 70 until I retro fit some seatbelts. If it proves difficult at the speeds you are talking about I will also look at a jag transplant at the front too.

Bit of an expensive month so not got the box sorted - boiler service, tank of heating oil, new dishwasher and yesterday we bought a puppy [:s]
