My Road - 1967

Some great calls out there chaps...yes the lights were better, tbh the street lights on the first picture (my house) only went 2 months ago as they're resurfacing the whole of Sheffield and replacing all lamps with LED ones...shame, however the rest of the street hasn't changed one bit including the factory - now a climbing wall manufacturers(the chap drives a VW camper - booo ;-) same with the other pic - all looks exactly the same! Sheffield hasn't moved on much except for the traffic :)

I'll post another up in a few days when I find one with some good motors on it - good new comp this :)

We have a full site that the council have created http://www.picturesheffield.com/ - 1000's on there - maybe the same thing for your local councils.

I've been watching with interest:) Looks like a Ford Classic (or Consul Capri) in front of the J4 at the crossroad.

Could you take some photos of what the streets look like today Jim? I got some of the cars, my grandad used to have one of those rovers. I've always liked the tr4/5, was the minx inbetween the mini and the maxi? Typical there's a few VWs in the picture, there great pictures though.

If I took a picture of my road in 1967 it might gave a few tractors on it as it was a still a field.

Now the cars have been guessed, I'll take a stab at the area! is it Walkley or Crookes?
Haven't lived in Sheffield for about 10 years but the general topography looks very familiar...

Back to the cars, I'd hazard a guess that the estate car in front of the VW van, that has the proportions of a Mini countryman but looks too big is actually a Series2 Morris Oxford Traveller, or even an Isis Traveller. It's the Issigonis design and proportions, just scaled up...
Ok, I'm cheating a bit as I have an Isis Traveller in the garage thats just been pushed back in the queue by the Commer purchase!

This side of Sheffield all looks the same... Terraced housing and lots of hills. Close but no cigar, its Greystones, just off ecclesall road. Maybe next one will be Crookes :)

So it is. Should have got it with the VW garage. Took the Record Tools VW van there once (if its the same garage I'm thinking of). I'm from the other side of town anyway (Chapeltown)so thats my excuse!

I'll stick with the Oxford/Isis claim anyway. You can just make out the extra horizontal strip of wood on the back doors which the smaller cars didn't have, and the way it looks bigger than the VW, which it is:p

Time for a tricky one...from the time the aliens landed, remember the'ole in the road really well as a child, had escalators down, shops, a giant fish tank but unfortunately also the smell of urine too :/

Ah, beat me to it whilst I was faffing with the Isis pic.
Thats a great picture of the Hole in the Road. Remember being fascinated with the fishtank on trips to town when I was a nipper, and the basement entrances to the big shops, the escalator that never worked etc. Also it being a slightly scary creepy place too, especially at night or winter.
I'll let others do the cars for now. As I said anorak away for a while!

Looks to be predominantly Vauxhalls in this one: Two HB Vivas on the roundabout and an HA Viva waiting to enter. Vauxhall Victor behind the bus and Bedford Beagle van leaving roundabout. Others include Arrows Hillman Hunter, Ford Anglia van, FX4 Taxi and Leyland Titan Bus. Don't know the truck on the roundabout, but in true slider tradition, it is being driven with the door open! Is that a Thames Trader heading towards the roundabout? Beyond that is a BMC/Leyland truck.

Great shouts again chaps, loving that motor too. Ah yes the ole int road...the fish tank amazed me too, stood there for ages on Saturdays before going to see the children's film foundation movies at the ABC cinema, then shopping at castle market with me mum all before the match at Hillsborough...standard saturday, lovely memories those :)
