Sometime this week i should recieve a box of ignition parts and fingers x she's gonna fire into life.If she dosent then im going to have to get my hands dirty arnt i!.
So heres the Highwayman i brought last week.
1725cc 3 speed automatic Commer 'Highwayman', speedo reads 48,000 miles, genuine?, i dont really care.
Like a fool i fell for it whilst browsing Ebay, i paid 75 pounds for it.I guess purists would rather stick with the standard Commer 'pop up' camper.This took my liking though.
So yes it needs some work, my priority is to get the engine running better than it does(well did!).Compression tests are showing 125-130 psi, slightly more with a lil' bit of oil squirted down the cylinder bores.The chassis number dictates this van is a high compression engine and should be looking for 140-150 psi!.So...maybe she's a little worn out.But she's nearly 33 years old, who isnt at that age!!.
Bodywork wise, i have handled worse(bloody VW's!).Its had front bottom corners and front valance to my knowledge.The welding has been done to a very high standard as well.The doors,cab floor, arches and sills dont need any work.The front panel however has suffered, it leaks from under the windscreen seal area, rust is quite severe there and am hoping that i can get my hands on either a complete front panel or a suitable repair patch!(Wolfie get in touch!!).The chassis front and rear wont need any work.
And yes you can see im looking to buy a new drivers seat!!, ill buy a pair of seats if need be.In that lovely orangey brown colour please anybody??
I need a wiring diagram please!!...its looks messy, but there are a few loose wires hanging about, the previous owner dismantled the dash to access the heater assembly.And can somebody tell me what gauge is missing from the dashboard!!.The floors are really good, there is some surface rust around what i believe to be inspection hatches.Nothing to worry about though.
looking back into the rear, it has cooker, sink and a knackered fridge!.So im looking to buy a replacement if anybody has one.I think it sleeps 4 persons(a double bed, hammock style bunk and a single bed).With 2 forward facing seats(seen in photo).In the corner is a cubicle meant to be utilised as a toilet room.I love the orange interior, which is in pretty good nick, a little faded here and there!.
I need a chrome front bumper if anybody has one spare.A screen washer bottle(sorry martin i said id photo you the holder but i cant find it, all i can see is a water pipe with a screw fitting hanging down in the left hand corner of the cab with a crude looking bracket bolted to the front end!).
The brakes dont work, theres no pedal pressure, but that will be down to faulty cylinders, master cylinder/servo at worst but i see Speedy spares sell those!.
I may be interested in buying a carb of anybody who has one spare as well.
I live in Nottinghmshire so i am willing to travel a reasonable distance to collect parts.
So you see i have something to do now in my spare time.
