i should say that the copper looking bit between the two blue hoses is a jaguar water pre-heater, plug it into the mains in winter and it heats the engine for cold starts :p

its a modern copy of the old HRG Derrington aluminium 7 port head, said to be worth about 22% more mid range torque straight out the box, but there is alot of room for major improvement in it, so its getting the treatment before it goes on ;)
matched up with some Keihin fcr 41mm flatslide racing carbs :p once i,ve made a manifold. should be looking around 150+ bhp at the wheels [^]:p[8D]

Riley decided to spit off the flywheel ringear [xx(] so today was spent bronze welding it back on through the starter motor hole.........its a good game [B)]
also discovered the lumpy running on the middle 2 cylinders was due to a dodgy ignition control box [xx(]
the joys of classic cars :D

Poor Riley [xx(] it looks like the oil pressure release valve has been bleeding down too much and run a big end or two, as it knocks badly and partially seizes when warm :(

Oh no that sucks.
If its any comfort the same thing happend to an early '50s A series i had yonks ago. I got away with new rings and shells and didnt have to grind the crank. It went great for years after. Fingers crossed its less damage than it sounds.

Original lump is long skipped [xx(] I have my eye on another mgb lump for a quick swap over, then i can do a full investigation/rebuild :)
Its on its final warning, any more mishaps and its getting a redtop [}:)]
