MY DADS COMMER

Hi, My dad passed away 18 months ago, and he owned a commer minibus registered 07/1963 it has great memories for us of fantastic camping holidays in Europe and the UK. It has sat idle for years but funny enough he bought a winch to pull it out of the shed the day before he died. I know it old but would love someone to be interested in giving it a new lease of live. I would love some advice on where I could start with selling it.

Hi RB. You're in the best place to get some info. I suggest you try and get some photos posted in this thread. That way people will be able to give you some advice based on condition etc. There are more commer experts here than anywhere else, so you are in the right place!

Hi RB, Welcome to the forum, glad you found us.

Hope we can help you find a deserving home for your Dads' van, sounds like an early one with a lot of interesting history - I'm sure someone here will be able to offer it a suitably loving home.

If you can let us know where you're based and get some photos sorted we can hopefully help you find a buyer and give you a rough idea of a fair price.

It's lovely to hear of another van helping to make some childhood holidays special - would love to see any holiday snaps you may have from commer trips or hear of your adventures:)

I tried replying to this earlier.. anyhoo Welcome and you are certainly in the right place.

If it is this old it will be worth more than the more readily available versions.

If you aren't able to get pictures online easily feel free to email me [email protected] and I will put them up and the bidding and the questions can begin!

Welcome!

Your minibus sounds very interesting indeed. Have you considered keeping it, though? I am asking as there are loads of forum members who have similar childhood memories, and most have either kicked themselves that it was sold, or bought themselves a van for that very reason - or seriously thinking of doing so.

It probably needs some work done to it, but I hope this is not the reason for wanting to sell it. There are people on here who can help with advice, and - I should think - also be able to assist in restoration work.

Just wanted to mention it. Good luck either way :)

Hi, Thankyou to all those who have answered my questions relating to my Dads Commer, I am going to get some pictures uploaded when I can, and ask your advice as too condition etc. Its great to know that I dont just have to scrap her, as someone may be able to use her or her parts, I like the way alot of people on this site give there vans names. My Dad and all of us referred to her as Betsy!

Hi there,
I posted a wanted advert not so long ago for a Commer Minibus and would really be interested in buying yours if you are looking to sell her.
If she is a project then that is not a worry; my dad has some skills with restoring classics with a history of MG's and I have always been a Mini lover (the pre-2000 ones) so have developed his love of classics.

I have put a few feelers out looking for a Commer minibus; there is one where we go on holiday in the summer and I have been chatting to the guy who owns that one and he is looking out for one for me too.

If you could give me a telephone number then I would love to give you a call to find out more, or alternatively, my telephone number is 07792200005 (I may not answer during the day because of work). I am a younger enthusiast, but I like to see that as an opportunity to own a van for much longer and get a lifetimes enjoyment from it. Betsy sounds perfect! Which part of the country are you by the way?

Cheers, Matthew (Gloucestershire)
