My Betsy Autosleeper

I'll have a look and see if i can find one of these micro switch's. Is my birthday today. I seem to have received a few darkside presents. Even my dad got me a t-shirt with a splitty on it :/

You'll get used to it, say camper and people usually come up with a splitty[V]
Say it much camper and you'll end up with lots of new freinds you don't really want:I
Happy birthday:D

Summer's nearly done

Cheers for the Birthday messages :) Spent a full 12hours on her today taking back rust, treating it, filling bits and one side is ready for primer tomorrow at some point. Also stuck the new headlights in to see what they'd look like.

A lot bright than the old ones and a bit of a steal too. The hydraulic switch was full of crud and stuck on so just gonna get another for now until i have a little more time and knowhow to fit the microswitch. Hoping to have her all in primer for end of the week then it'll be of to the mot station next week. providing we get some not so bad weather this week. (fingers crossed)

Yes indeed. Great little tip panky ;) Much brighter too. I finnished my birthday of with a 250mile round trip last night along with a dangerous game of fuel light bingo. Nearly lost. Just outside carlisle hit the red managed to stick behind a lorry till i got to lancaster as no fuel at services. Lest in the camper theres a bed when you run out of fuel :)

Found a few pics whilst sorting through a pile of old documents just before i renew her sorn status (hopefully for the last time) thought i'd share what she used to look like.

Summer's nearly done

Well a little update on the van. Doing what i can, when i can and trying to get her into the paint shop before winter sets in. Just Doing it a panel at a time atm. Getting rid of the rust and silly amounts of filler used and putting metal plates in where needed. only got a few pics. The little shelter blew away last night, lost somewhere across the fields, think i'm going to have to see if i can find a barn nearby so i can get some more work done on her.

90% of the roof has been done now and is also ready for primer. lets hope we get a little break in this weather so i can get her finished off. Bribe my friends round with chocky hobnobs and brews followed by beers for the final push :)

Well, It's been far to long since i updated this. Still been lurking on the site and tinkering on the van. Took her in for a MOT today. First time in 7 years or so, I was expecting a list as long as my arm on the inevitable fail sheet. Turns out she failed on just two things (rear offside brake binding and insufficient washer fluid pressure). Totally made up. The MOT station when i took her tossed a coin for the punishment of working on her :p but were well impressed with how solid she is all over. Must have been well look after by the previous owners. Will hopefully get the Brake and washer fluid pump sorted this weekend and get a ticket on her next week. Then i'll be able to drive her down to the spray shop. It's taken around 3 rears for me to get to this stage, being young and not knowing much about mechanics and the fray of problems i'd come across while working on betsy but it's all starting to feel worth it now. It wouldn't have been possible without all the friendly advice of CMV and had it not been for the fact i'm totally besotted with her i'm sure i'd have caved in a long time ago :)

Wel done Jon - a fantastic result for all your hard work and soon to be rewarded with the magic ticket[^]
We expect to see you at a meet soon - there's one in Yorkshire in August:)

How refreshing

Well, waaaay to go!!![8D] provided you don't have a leaky cylinder on one of the rear brakes an imbalance is very common, most of us make a point of braking hrd a few times on the way to the MOT station as this will balance the brakes up nicely:) ....welcome back and can't wait to see the new respray[8D]

I kinda like the old look in a strange kinda way:D

Cheers Panky, I defo hope to be there. It really does feel like a golden ticket after all this time. My dad loves that plumb and custard colour enigma and having now changed the whole colour scheme im now looking at it in a different light :p
She's a bit down on power at the moment but ive got some new plugs, filter and oil which i'm hoping will perk her up a little. 3rd's a little crunchy too but i'm putting that down to poor driving technique haha

the gear changes are a little quirky, however, may be worth checking the gearbox oil level.....could also be the selector linkage needs adjusting a little due to the bushes wearing...;)

Well, Hit a little snag on, The binding on the rear turned out to be this part. Think its a rear brake cylinder. Anyone happen to know where i could get one from. I'll put a couple of pictures below :)

Well, Just got back from the test station and she now has an mot :) Big thankyou to mr maltas who managed to get the part to us in what seemed an impossible time. Got her up to 25 down my road. She's running a bit rough and needs a bit of a service but it means i can finally drive her up to the workshop and start fiddling with the engine more. While waiting at the station a smart dressed man approached and i was expecting a bit of stick, turned out he was rather interested in buying her. She's not for sale but it was nice to see how much interest she gets as something a little bit different.

Anyone have any recomendations on oil and spark plugs?
